@ryanc wild and crazy guess: you've learned something interesting about the timing of the device's wi-fi probe signals?

Upthorn (upthorn@brontosin.space)'s status on Sunday, 02-Jun-2024 01:42:31 JST Upthorn @Arcaik @ryanc there is traditionally some liability for an inventor to recall and/or repair their product when it malfunctions catastrophically.
"Don't overwrite my file" should mean your existing files are completely unmodified, and can result in unrecoverable and potentially catastrophic damage to users of the product when this is not the case.

Upthorn (upthorn@brontosin.space)'s status on Sunday, 02-Jun-2024 01:42:29 JST Upthorn @Arcaik if someone made diy batteries, and passed them out for free, would "provided as-is, without any warranty of any kind" absolve them of liability if they then all ignited and burnt down every recipient's home?
Should it?
Or should the distributor of a product have some duty to ensure that it is not actively harmful to its users in the course of normal operation in accordance with instructions?

Upthorn (upthorn@brontosin.space)'s status on Saturday, 30-Dec-2023 20:06:04 JST Upthorn Our cat has been eating very poorly this past week. We hadn't been too concerned about it, cause he's got chronic kidney disease, and he's been having a high-appetite low-appetite cycle for a while.
But this one just kept getting worse, so we took him to the vet
And... he's lost 15% of his body weight since his arthritis shot last month, and may need to be hospitalized for starvation

Upthorn (upthorn@brontosin.space)'s status on Saturday, 30-Dec-2023 20:05:07 JST Upthorn His kidneys are suddenly doing much worse and they want to keep him three to four days to see if aggressive fluids can help
The estimated cost is $1000 above my credit limit.
Edit: okay, I can at least cover the first two days
Edit 2: oh. The "first day" is just until midnight tonight.

I don't hear anything about anybody doing that anymore...

It should be pretty trivial to add a negative weight for each advertisement placement the page contains. This would at least cripple the "million ads no content" model. But it would also be counter to google's interests as a company that collects tax on ad placements.
