@apschmidt All apps are different. Some have more features than others. The web interface has all the options. If there's an option missing from the app you use, try a different app or ask the developer of the app to add it

To all Mastodon-admins: seems like there's an attack on all instances by troll accounts. Servers get slow because of it.
They use thousands of subdomains of activitypub-troll.cf. My 'pull' queues skyrocketed.

I now blocked the domain activitypub-troll.cf and all is back to normal. Please check if you're hit too.

We have received our 1000th report. Not sure if we should celebrate.. but it keeps mastodon.world a safe place.

Remember, report anything you see that's against the rules. If it isn't against the rules but you don't want to see it, use the Mute or Block functions.

@n3wjack Normal users don't know what federation is or how Mastodon works. And they shouldn't need to. Maybe server-selection could be automated for those who don't know or care which server to pick.

Not that it matters, but looking at where mastodon.world ranks in number of users is we're 23rd out of 4069 instances.

We're not striving to be the biggest, we're striving to have a stable server for our users. It would be best for the idea of Federation that users are spread over as many servers as possible ?

@dfo @stevo That's in the Admin area of Mastodon. I think at's the number of posts or maybe logins.. not sure.

@dfo @stevo Correct. It was explained to me that it's the interactions as seen from our server, so not globally.

Reminder (or maybe eye-opener) to Mastodon users:

Direct Messages on Mastodon are NOT encrypted.

What does this mean: The message is in the database un-encrypted. Anyone with access to the database could potentially read the messages.

For mastodon.world, only the admins have database access (@jeroen, @spaceriker and myself).

If you have really sensitive info, don't share it on Mastodon. There are secure messaging apps for that.
