Me parece significativo.
"The tech industry and its press have treated the rise of billion-scale social networks and ubiquitous smartphone apps as an unadulterated win for regular people, a triumph of usability and empowerment. They seldom talk about what we’ve lost along the way in this transition, and I find that younger folks may not even know how #theweb used to be."
"One of the best arguments I’ve heard about why #Orkut so thoroughly dominated #Brazilianinternetculture in the 2000s was that it had a very good tool for creating public communities. And Twitter’s hashtag, chronological feed, and open search provided the same ability to create endless pockets of conversation or “zoeira” or “zuera,” the term Brazilians sometimes use for the meme-filled chaos that used to happen on X."
@uira@almino@gutocarvalho Opa! Vamos falar.
#Reddit "…the platform that was once the darling of the internet's cool kids is now facing an existential crisis. It's a feeling that should be familiar to anyone who's watched their favorite punk band sell out and start playing elevator music.
You want to look away, but you can't help but wonder: How did we get here?"
@robin@skarnio@aracnus@evan Hello Robin, thnks for the help! I've talked with friends in gov.br, and your notes caused some surprise. 1st, as we work with public policy, we are comfortable with AP, and not so much with AT. You say that developing AT/AP integration is not easy, but then, that would be our main challenge. You mentioned PIX, and we've been thinking how it could be part of the protocol. Do you think it could somehow help the AT/AP integration? Maybe we have an opportunity here.
Vale apostar no protocolo? Qual?
Hi, we are a part of the Brazilian government [museums] experimenting with the Fediverse. We've started a conversation with @robin on possibilites, and I will be showing it to friends from other agencies. The idea is to bring good info to people in position to decide, and maybe you'd like to add to the conversation.
"Since June, users have been able to see fediverse replies on their posts if they enabled #fediverse sharing in the app’s settings. Once enabled, the sharing option allows users to syndicate their posts across the wider social web and then see how people on other services have responded. Now users will be able to see the fediverse replies on other people’s posts, too. This immediately brings more content into #Threads, even without a sizable increase in Threads users."
"[#Durov's] company sees itself as operating entirely outside the law. …[not] necessarily means that Durov should have been arrested and, say, Zuckerberg—whose platforms are also full of the same things—should not…(not saying either of them should be arrested). Durov’s arrest is still potentially concerning… But conservatives in particular are so riled up about this in a very specific way because they see this as a chance to turn Durov into a martyr in the #culturewar." https://www.404media.co/how-telegrams-founder-pavel-durov-became-a-culture-war-martyr/
This phrasing drives me nuts because in a very limited technical sense, it’s not wrong. Yet in every sense that matters, it fundamentally misrepresents what Telegram is and how it works in practice. And this misrepresentation is bad for both journalists and particularly for Telegram’s users, many of whom could be badly hurt as a result.
"In #Taiwan, a key techno-political challenge in the last decade has been to respond to Chinese propaganda. In Taiwan, the public and government both now view the threats to trust posed by #disinformation as existential threats from China and the government has responded with a ‘whole of society’ approach. The Taiwanese response to disinformation also involves an active role played by the state and raises questions about the appropriate #RoleOfGovernments."
"The rise of #disinformation online and its impact on deliberative democracies is among the more consequential socio-political and technological problems of our times. However, a government-controlled body [in #India] that acts as the primary arbiter of online news about itself is prima facie an act in bad faith, where the government can unilaterally determine what online content about it should be available." https://www.techpolicy.press/india-and-taiwans-divergent-paths-to-combat-online-disinformation/
"While the size of #Musk's contribution is particularly egregious, he is not alone in attempting to buy this election," Sanders continued. "Other billionaires are also playing a significant role—in both political parties. Oh, I know...here goes #BernieSanders again about #CitizensUnited and the role of money in politics. Let's be clear. Why should a tiny clique of people should have incredible wealth and power while most people have none." https://www.commondreams.org/news/elon-musk-donald-trump
