Want to just take a minute to call out and thank Eugen Rochko @Gargron for his honesty and integrity.
Understand many here have issues with different things about Mastodon (and please take them elsewhere), but by and large Eugen Rochko has been a straight shooter. He does not oversell capabilities and is cautious with public statements. This may not be the flashiest way to run a platform, but it has engendered widespread trust, which in this day and age is a rare commodity.
Thank you Eugen.
Children can't learn when they are hungry. The cruelty and inhumanity of this is beyond reproach.
Now Bluesky's Jay Graber is simply lying.
“If a billionaire came in and bought Bluesky and took it over, or I decided tomorrow to change things in a way that people didn’t really like, then they could fork off and go on to other applications.”
https://observer.com/2025/03/bluesky-ceo-jay-graber-wants-world-without-caesars/
Of course, this makes absolutely no sense, but tech media dutifully just prints it.
What does "fork off and go on to other applications" mean?
What is it she is even saying?
Getting really tired of this gaslighting BS.
Today is a good day to remind people that truly distributed open Public Social Media is the only defensible online space.
Even if you use other platforms, please create a Mastodon/Fediverse account.
Not only will you protect yourself, you will be reinforcing freedom of expression.
And right on cue, an article in The Telegraph says Germany is questioning the wisdom of the multi multi billion dollar F-35 program.
No paywall: https://www.yahoo.com/news/f-35-kill-switch-could-170426053.html
Folks, if you are unfamiliar with the F-35 "joint strike fighter", please do a little research and understand that this could hardly be bigger, more disastrous news for the US defense industry and US/EU alliances.
Posting Protest Pictures
Media organizations may try to downplay the protests now sweeping the country. Posting protest pictures to public social media on algorithmless Mastodon can help cut through censorship.
Use hashtag #protest for discoverability.
Do not post identifying images that include faces or tattoos.
If you process images be sure to black out, and not blur.
Post screenshots of images to remove metadata

Not reported much in US media, but mentioned in this Forbes article and big news in Europe...
"...the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has halted U.S. aid to Ukraine, including vital support for the F-16s’ radar jammers."
So get this straight, the US is disabling vital capabilities of a weapons system a US company sold to an ally.
Putting aside the horrendous ethical and political implications, what allies are now going to buy these vulnerable US weapons?
So much in the news this weekend about companies and governments all over the world scrambling to cut ties to US products and services. Certainly defense related industries, but also IT, energy, and even food. Wonder if, when, and to what extent this is felt by the US stock market. Wonder what political blowback that might cause.
Disintegration begins around 33:30 approx 8 minutes into the flight time.

Who owns Bluesky?
So here is a story for tech media to investigate. Two months ago it was reported that #Bluesky was close to a big deal spearheaded by Bain Capital for a huge investment round that would value the company at $700M.
https://www.businessinsider.com/x-competitor-bluesky-valuation-new-funding-round-2025-1?op=1
They were clearly running out of money from their early 2024 $15M Blockchain Capital round.
Since then nothing, no information, but they now seem to have plenty of cash.🤔
Did someone invest big $$ in Bluesky? If so, who? Who owns Bluesky?
Wish there were 200 more lawmakers like Jasmine Crockett.

In essence #Bluesky is a trap, a Potemkin village with an appealing facade, but behind the false exterior it's the same old centralized corporate walled garden (https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0318034&utm_source=pr&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=plos006). Users now have the illusion of reach and freedom, but that can be denied at a moment's notice. Alternatively, it can be suppressed gradually, and they may not even know it.
And all the while users are building their corporate prison, they are not engaged in fortifying a defensible public resource.
People ask: "Why the preoccupation with #Bluesky? Lot's of liberals are going there and love it."
@Daojoan does a great job of providing the long answer in this brilliant piece: https://www.joanwestenberg.com/big-tech-wants-you-trapped-the-open-web-sets-you-free-2/
But the short answer is that, but funneling users onto another unsafe centralized corporate platform #Bluesky inhibits the construction of truly defensible public social media.
So now, when something happens over on #Bluesky, the Fedi will not be ready to absorb a rapid mass migration.
Very sorry for you. That must really suck. And yes, Fox News is a principle weapon in the information war being waged against this country. The amount of disinformation that their audience soaks up is truly amazing. To be clear, not saying that these folks are blameless, just that they are also targets of deliberate sophisticated psychological manipulation. Breaking the spell is very difficult and with those truly really far gone, probably impossible.
An analogy can be made to alcoholism. People hate alcoholism analogies, but in this case it is apt. You simply can not tell an alcoholic that they have a problem. They have established a powerful self delusion that they are okay, even if it is obvious to others around them. The only thing that can break through to get them to sober up is some sort of personal crisis. In the case of MAGA this 'rock bottom' moment may be losing their Social Security or Medicare, but don't bet on it.
Of course, it is nonsense. But if you were to check out YouTube comments right now (don't it's awful) you would see unfettered vitriol against Zelenski for being "disrespectful". This is something that will be repeated in every forum and amplified by selection algorithms and the mainstream media. People who don't pay as much attention to the news will never-the-less absorb a negative impression of Zelenski. This is the objective of this planned attack.
If we can make the public understand the frame that they are under relentless psy-ops attacks from specific shady people and organizations who are trying to manipulate them to act in ways contrary to their interests. That, they need to guard themselves against such manipulations and be more skeptically consumers of information. Then, we will be establishing an effective defensive counter to this pervasive psychological warfare that is warping out society.
fin
One is temped to push back and explain that Trump/Vance was rude first, and leaders don't wear suits when a country is at war. But by doing so you implicitly acknowledge the psy-ops disinformation frame.
Or to blame the media. The weapon.
The better approach is to dismiss all of this out of hand very specifically as psychological operations. Use every occurrence as an opportunity to expose and attack the practice of targeted psy-ops disinformation by these billionaires.

So, what can we do about psy-ops directed against us? The first step is to acknowledge it and expose it to the extent possible.
Right now there's a very specific narrative the Zelensky meeting was going well until Zelenski out of the blue was rude. Also, he showed "disrespect" by not wearing a suit. This is being repeated ad nauseum, and as false as we know this to be, it is the disinformation low information people are receiving.
