Three years ago today, I had bilateral bunion surgery. I have run 3,968 miles since then, a longer distance than a flight from NYC to Barcelona. Below, a post-surgery pic and a few pics from runs since then in beautiful places.

Prefacing this with the fact that smoking is my No. 1 pet peeve - I absolutely hate the smell.
That said, just flew Barcelona to Sevilla, on the plane for less than 2 hours total - the person behind me smokes so much that the smell was like the worst perfume to the extent that my clothes and hair now smell of smoke 😩

I also had a lot of my sense of invulnerability knocked away by a severe health scare (a stroke, in my case) around age 30. We all have vulnerabilities, whether we are acutely aware of them or not - and Trump’s second term may well expose vulnerabilities even the most sharply aware among us may not know we have.

I very rarely take taxis/similar, except when traveling.
Today I had a nice chat with a taxi driver in Sevilla about health care, cuts in Spanish system but that in his opinion it’s still excellent compared to most countries, the rise of the far right in the U.S. and around the world (including surge in España w/Vox). And then I chatted with an acquaintance about history of the region, plus got more tidbits on Opus Dei to go along with the book I just read.

I knew the digital ad targeting was precise these days, didn’t realize the OOH ads were too (joking)
I stopped to stretch as a tram in Sevilla was about to pass (I seemed to tweak my hip on my run this am) and then the track was covered with ads for some cream that is supposed to help your muscles recover.
Talk about nailing the audience.

Two things that always bring me at least a little peace and raise my mood: running and a dip in the sea.
I took a half-day off work for my birthday today, so got 13.1 miles 🏃🏼♀️ in with some moments in the sea.
There are plenty of dragons to be slayed, but I need to take care of myself - mentally and physically - to be able to do that.

@joeo10 I used to really enjoy the American Way (American Airlines) one.

@joeo10 @Jonathanglick @harrymccracken I will inject one caveat there - not all owners get involved in content decisions. Some definitely do, but others leave it to their teams. There still is influence in who they hire, though even there, some delegate to an independent board.

I’m sure calling Puerto Rico a massive island of trash in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, as one of the opening acts to Trump’s rally today at Madison Square Garden - a redux of the infamous 1939 Nazi rally there - will win over lots of Latino voters.

The sexist arguments for why someone wouldn’t vote for Harris, or any woman - many from women!! - are even more outrageous when you consider how the concerns fit Trump to a T.
- women are kinda all over the place
- women have emotions
- women think with our heart, mostly, over our mind 🤨
- women are more moody

Again, Harris vs Trump. These all fit the latter more.

Another reason to love living in Cataluña: with a friend visiting me from the U.S., we ate at my favorite neighborhood spot El Xampanyet. The Catalan couple next to us in their 60s or 70s talked about the U.S. election, the threat of Elon Musk and the repeat of the 1930s around the world.

People like to criticize the USPS, but it’s pretty fantastic (and esp compared with many other countries).
I mailed my ballot back Monday afternoon and it was received and counted by NY County Board of Elections on Wednesday.
