@183231bcb@transfem.social I think the complaint right now is that AI is a machine that's marketed as having much greater capabilities than it actually has, like if a cotton gin were touted as making clothes for you. And it's being used as an excuse to fire people and reduce wages.

@Rasp@raru.re Yep! Personally I stopped using Google Drive for most things in like 2015 because it was really dang slow when a document got to like 20 pages long. (Maybe just in Firefox, but I was using Firefox.) Instead I made a macro language to write fiction in. SSH lets me work on documents remotely, and I use git for backups.

@Rasp@raru.re The person making the noise at this point seems to have been reported for child pornography. It's less likely that Google is actively scanning your documents to find offenses against their terms of service.

Mind, the terms of service forbid sharing a broad class of sexually explicit content. (But they allow inciting violence as long as it's not "specific" acts of violence, because they're more keen on people getting hurt than people having fun.)

@ashten@social.platypus-sandbox.com To name and shame: I applied to Canonical and they had me take a test that was basically "are you dyslexic? If so, get the fuck out of here."

It was a programming job. Sure, there's a lot of text there, but I can use dyslexic friendly fonts. They made some excuse about it being a "spatial reasoning problem," but programmers don't get many problems like that in practice. If each of those took me ten times as long as normal, I'd be like 99.7% as effective at the job.
