@QueerMatters their monetization model, unfortunately, depended really heavily on blockchain ownership of trivially cloneable 3D assets - essentially “VRChat but every upload is a NFT but you can copy it with zero effort” - which is so obviously horseshit that I can barely believe they spent so much effort on it

@QueerMatters fun story, that’s how early VRChat competitor High Fidelity worked: a FOSS model led by a “foundation”, federated across the internet. It seemed like it could never quite break 10-50 CCU, and they ran out of money after a while and closed up shop.

like, imagine this scenario:

a realtor is taking a man through a nice building. they say "well, if this fourplex isn't the right size for you, perhaps I can interest you in a duplex?"

prospective buyer: "no, I still think that's going to be too small."

the only thing the topics really have in common is that they're all lumped together in the same popular AI textbook that I know a few universities use.

I suppose I wouldn't object if they were to add the subscript "A Variety of CS Topics That People Have Pretended Was AI Over The Years"

I also get very angry when people call burgers "food" when they're very clearly burgers. It's me, the strawman who doesn't understand when one category is very clearly a subset of another category.

I think the people who object to calling LLMs AI think that what people mean when they say "AI" is "AGI", THE MACHINE IS HUMAN INTELLIGENT, but actually AI has served as a kind of CS topic salad since the 60s.

Using A* search to play chess? AI. Using Prolog to do logic programming? AI. Using constraint satisfaction algorithms to do logistics? AI. Using bayesian filtering to detect spam? AI. Using LLMs to predict text? That's right, it's AI.

I moved to a walkable neighborhood and I see kids outside all of the time

i guess it wasn't video games or phones that were the problem after all

my wife's company is trying to convince people to return to the office because one of their executives thinks its embarrassing when clients come by and the offices are empty, anyways, theatre students always need some pocket money and if someone wants to join my exciting new "potemkin village as a service" startup

i took home economics in high school because I wanted to learn how to cook, but it didn't help that much

HOWEVER when the time finally came up to set up a token-based micro-economy within my household and keep it from immediately deflating to valuelessness, I was like "frig yeah, finally, I'm prepared for this"
