Many years ago, Minto bought out the apartment complex I was living in. It was old, average, and decently maintained.

Minto came in, renovated, and every year made applications to raise rent above guidlines and won every time.

As renters, we were screwed.

They could recover all their renovation costs by raising our rents. What was most galling was they replaced all plumbing fixtures including toilets. Saved the money in water bills and used that to go before the tribunal and raise our rents above guideline.

I have nothing but hearty fuck you’s for Minto.

I was shocked monitoring all the traffic from my TCL TV when I got it years ago. In the end I changed my wifi password and unplugged Ethernet. Just have the AppleTV connected to it.

I recently needed to get a small TV for my wife’s aunt. Ended up with a Samsung but even that was a PITA to setup. It just assumes you will give it internet access and makes it difficult not to.

I did a spit take when on Colbert Joy-Ann Reid takes aim at 1 million covid deaths under Trump.

Now do Biden.

No, Trump should never be anywhere near the presidency.

But I think democrats and liberals are full of themselves thinking they have done better when it comes to Covid.

I have posted here a while back (can’t find post) about a couple up the street from my mother in law who she is friends with.

They are older and had a couple Covid infections. They were quite sick late summe(?) with not covid (tm).

Since that illness they’ve really not been back to normal.

One was winded raking leaves, and they decided with their doctor it was allergies. The other has had 3ish bouts of “food poisoning” and a week or so ago was in bed wearing winter clothes.

Today they went to the ER becuase the one with new onset leaf allergies can’t breathe.

It’s breaking my heart alll of this denial. We could be doing so much better.

It's really good to see unequivocal discussion that covid is airborne and we urgently need to improve indoor air quality.

Slightly troubling that it implies covid is over.

No discussion of the fact that there is still a place for masks especially given it will take time for building HVAC upgrades, and we need a fix for near field spread especially in places like hospitals and doctors offices.

I am also troubled that places like head offices and private schools will get upgrades while public schools and public transit will not.

Circling back, yeah covid is not over. Just tonight Toronto EMS declared a code red. Yes the system was already underfunded but adding an additional 20% workload from covid is only making matters worse. Just look at the covid hospitalizations.

Please don’t give small children super bright LED flashlights to play with.

While they aren’t lasers, the light output new high power LEDs are sufficiently bright to create short term or longer term eye damage if you don’t immediately look away.

There are commercially available LEDs that fall in risk group 2 that are relying on your aversion reflex to keep your eyes safe.

Yes this is a subtoot.

Once people go down the antivax rabbit hole there really isn’t anything they won’t believe.
