In exchange for providing compensation to victims of the opioid crisis and state and local govts, the Sacklers (owners of Purdue) would have been shielded from all future liability,

Recall that Purdue aggressively marketed OxyContin as having a very low addiction risk(<1%), targeted & awarded high-prescribing docs lucrative bonuses & lobbied hard for 1/

looser prescribing regulations. Mr. Sackler urged doctors to prescribe the highest dosages of Oxycontin because it brought in more 💵 . Several hundred thousand people have died from opioid overdoses while the Sacklers made billions.
