The extravagance of a hibiscus flower

@futurebird ... newsletter?

The lovely bell-shaped flowers on a blueberry bush.

Winter colors

Next plausibly warm day, and my Australian shepherd who is not into brushing and who now has a full and felty coat is getting the traditional February shave.

Current conditions

Junco looking like a little penguin song bird in the snow.

A perfect nugget of a squirrel

For those dealing with #LongCovid: my wife has been on Zepbound, a GLP1, and her symptoms are vastly improved. She can exercise gently without a metabolic crash, and her brain fog is much reduced. She got the idea from Annie Ballet, who writes about COVID in more detail here: https://synecdochic.dreamwidth.org/2023/12/31/antihistamines-and-covid.html

I wish I had enough money to actually help people whose problems would be largely addressed by having enough money. Heck, we could skip the middleman: I wish those people had enough money to have stable food, housing, and healthcare.

House finch soaking up the sun.

The sun got a goldfinch, too.

Caterpillars! On the blueberry bush!

When I put out birdseed first thing in the morning, I sing out "Birds, birds, birds!" Our Lady of Sitting knows this, and she was first to arrive today.

Grosbeak! First one I've snapped a photo of this year.

Our Lady of Sitting has braved the snow for breakfast.

Libro.fm, audiobooks and ebooks where your local bookstore gets a cut, is doing a trans right read along. It is nice to find a company I am ethically aligned with now and then.

Happy #caturday.

@marcelosoaressouza mmm. What a glorious place to live. I am on the northeast, and apples and peaches are the main fruits that do well here. No mangoes or feijoas, alas!

TIL a citizen science project is documenting seagulls eating stuff; spider scientists use tiny vibrators to lure spiders out of their tunnels; bat poop can kill you if you use it to grow cannabis.

I have been awake for less than 30 minutes.
