We wanted to make something good tonight so we made Gatte Ki Subzi together ❤️

A Rajasthani dish made of besan dumplings in yogurt sauce, it is one of our favorite dishes.

We are thinking about doing something more elaborate like this every Thursday evening as a way to start the weekend a bit early (since we both have WFH on Fridays 😊).

Finally got around to making the Paneer last night. Decided to make Paneer Khurchan. One of our favorite restaurants in Chicago (“Essence of India” in Lincoln Square) does it really well and we were craving it. It is not a dish you often see on a menu here in the US.

We wanted to have a quiet afternoon and so we went to go to Kapej Coffee on the Brown Line. It is one of our favorite places in #Chicago with some of the best #coffee in the city. In fact, the owner was roasting coffee fresh in a little alcove off the counter.

Went for a nice walk today at the river walk next to the northern branch of the Chicago River. This was probably the first good summer-ish day we had so we wanted to get out early. So lucky that we live so close to such a beautiful spot. What is amazing is that this greenery is a relatively recent effort to restore the ecological health of the Chicago River.

Watched “Love at First Sight” on Netflix tonight. Very simple and sweet - a nice cozy date movie for a cold Friday night 🤗

On our trip to Austin in March, we went along the Colorado River and made our way to the Congress Avenue Bridge. The bridge is home to the largest urban bat colony in the world. While it was daytime, you can hear a light chitter of the resident safe in their homes underneath.

@dohappybelove was feeling a little under the weather today and so, when we both feel a little low, it is time for a Ghibli film!

Our go-to films are usually "My Neighbor Totoro" or "Kiki's Delivery Service" but we haven't watched "Spirited Away" in a long time and we noticed to many small details this time.

Special #Breakfast this Sunday morning. #MasalaOats from "Parsi" by Farokh Talati and South Indian #FilterCoffee with Oat Milk. The oats were fantastic and pretty easy to makee. Vegetarian but can be vegan without Ghee.

We had our first quiet Saturday in a long time. This afternoon we made some time for art and creativity! @dohappybelove did the watercolor painting and @seanbala made a long-stitch book. The inside of Sean's book was made from an old calendar that we had lying around.

It was so nice to do something creative together!

Decided to go to our favorite board game cafe tonight after work 🤗

We got a chance to play a new game called "Rebuilding Chicago" based off a similar game about Seattle. The creator (in the first photo on the left) is in Chicago doing research and testing out this variation.

It was such a blast to try something new and not yet on the market! The game was fun - we will definitely keep an eye out for it when it is released.

For the first time in a very long time we had chai and toast in bed. When we lived in India, we did that every morning with a book and journal. A nice way to start the last day of the year. And what a gorgeous view outside - finally some good snowfall for the holiday!

We also went to Sfera Sicilian Street Food tonight. @dohappybelove saw it in the NY Times' "36 Hours in Chicago" feature. The place was so warm and welcoming. The arancini was WONDERFUL. And we were so tempted by everything else that we snuck back over after having our meal at Alice's for a hot chocolate. The place has many vegetarian options - perfect for a quick bite to chase the winter blues!

Still celebrating the holidays - decided to have dinner at Alice and Friend's Vegan Kitchen in Edgewater. We have walked by here before but not gone in - and we are glad we did! Food was reasonably priced and we appreciated being able to choose literally anything off the menu. @dohappybelove got a Vegan Pho and @seanbala got Bim Bam Bop. Highly recommended if you are ever in the neighborhood!
