I swore you-know-who was never going to make me freak out hitting the refresh button for hours again if he regained office. I was going to zen right out of the news cycle. Hug trees. Touch grass. But when you are an Electronic Resources librarian in a public library and the Medicaid portal in your state is down because the POTUS is trying to take over the government with nutcase illegal OMB memos, this has a potential impact on your ability to serve the public.

Who can tell me about Diaspora and Friendica and why, once again, when people are looking for Fediverse alternatives, we the geeks befuddle the masses with this “choose randomly from thousands of servers with no guidance” thing. Most social media users think servers are the people you tell how you want your steak cooked.

I am resisting in place. I won’t march, and I already hold public office, it’s called Public Librarian. I make queer and trans people feel at home and change their name in the catalog and if my coworkers change it back, I change it again. I make rainbow brochures and when they get stolen and trashed I make more. I put book challenge info on the website. I’m safe zone trained and in the trenches. We may need extra funding soon so please remember and support us.
