The thing that will leave US comix creators gobsmacked in Today's Webtoon and Sleeper Hit is how WEALTHY the successful manga and webtoon creators are. Big, gorgeous condos and home, studios w/ 2+ assistants. huge $$ offers for signing w/ rival companies.
@Viki@twitter.com I watched Sleeper Hit first, plus I kinda know how the JP manga industry works, so some character archetypes felt familiar. But in Today's Webtoon, one key difference btwn the JP version & what's not in the KR version: the publishing salesman & bookstore clerk characters.
@Viki@twitter.com So Today's Webtoon and another J-Drama I raved about earlier, Sleeper Hit (also on @Viki@twitter.com), are all based on the same manga, Juhan Shuttai! by Naoko Masuda. Watch both to see fascinating differences between the JP & KR comics industry. https://www.viki.com/tv/38709c-sleepeeer-hit
that’s the chilling effect of adding full search: it changes the tone of what you can post because you now must expect hostile randos to dig through your trash and use it to character assassinate you. and it’s galling to see privileged people be super excited for that future
I hope newcomers understand why there isn’t an open search function here. That is a conscious choice to protect people from harassment of the kind that is rampant on the birdsite. Bigots will search for keywords related to minorities and harass them relentlessly. It happened to me as a transgender woman constantly Over There. If you want people to find you or your posts, use hashtags! Your profile should be full of hashtags!
just fyi, the day fedi adds a workibg global full history text search is the day i permanently delete all my accounts. that is what i did when twitter added it in 2013. i told everyone else to delete theirs too but they all thought i was nuts.
now look at all the celebrities brought down by bullshit they tweeted in 2009, and who knows the full human cost of mass keyword bullying
Kia ora toot friends. (Hello in Māori language) Tonight I am bringing some #transport, #bikes, #cycling, #urbanism and #antiCar#memes. I hope you enjoy them and are radicalised like I am. Once you start seeing how we've been trapped by #carDependency you cannot unsee it again. Let's fight for space for people, cities that are walkable, accesible, clean, green and safe. Of course, please contribute your own memes to the thread and also radicalise your family, workmates and friends!
It will be interesting to see what all the Twitter-famous scholars end up doing. Are they so addicted to the follower counts and retweets that they can’t find happiness here? Will they come up with convoluted justifications for staying on Noel Crotchstench’s bird site? Will they settle in here nicely just being ordinary folk?
@meredith Both are used frequently in Kansai, too. ろう者 means Deaf, ろうあ者 means Deaf & Mute, but they are used pretty much interchangeably as far as I can tell. The sign for Deaf also refers visually to muteness (the hand over the mouth).
A few months, I felt obliged to follow back everyone who followed me, because there weren’t a lot of us and I didn’t want people to feel discouraged and leave, but that habit led me to over-follow the past few weeks, so I’m pruning my follows. It’s kind of like, if you’re in a small party with just ten people, it’s rude to ignore any of them, but if you’re in a ballroom with 100 people, you don’t feel a need to interact with everyone. If that makes sense.
