@darnell The bill becoming law only says that China must divest Tik Tok in 9 months. That sounds pretty reasonable, doesn’t it? Governments require foreign entities to divest their problematic holdings all the time.

@darnell gotcha, thanks. So the country that bans all meaningful US-based social networks is refusing to allow Tik Tok to be sold? That sounds to me like it’s China forcing the ban, not the US.

@drewdevault In the past few months the amount of sea lioning on Mastodon seems to have gone way up. At least, the comment sections I read often get infested with aggressive and needlessly contrarian bots. Some pretty obvious brigading too.
Hardly saw it at all 6 months ago, now I see it regularly.
