@sb@darnell@darnell.day China 🇨🇳 has already stated they will prohibit TikTok from being sold to an American company. So, in effect, there would be a ban.
@darnell gotcha, thanks. So the country that bans all meaningful US-based social networks is refusing to allow Tik Tok to be sold? That sounds to me like it’s China forcing the ban, not the US.
@sb They only do that for real national security reasons (military, tech hardware, food, energy, aviation, etcetera).
It’s ridiculous that they are doing this for a social network.
Some of my House representatives thankfully voted against the bill. Now I am going to contact my Senators to see if they will strip out the TikTok ban in the House bill (they may support that idea).
@darnell The bill becoming law only says that China must divest Tik Tok in 9 months. That sounds pretty reasonable, doesn’t it? Governments require foreign entities to divest their problematic holdings all the time.
