Specifically, been thinking about why exactly most isekai are trash. Of course many are written with godawful concepts and no real plot or ending in mind, just write until the money starts flowing, but that's not true of all isekai and it's not the only possible detracting factor.
I think there's a more simple reason for isekai being such a hard genre to write and thus most being bad. It's something even a well written one cannot escape. The premise of the genre is wrong. A bit of a strong statement sure, but the sub-genre's entire premise hinges on a separation between the main character and the setting in various ways. Problem is, that can only be done for so long. Inevitably the character has to adapt to the world lest the story be nothing but the dumbest man around acting like an idiot every time he sees someone drink water from a well. Provided the character isn't a super genius or doesn't have the special ability to create Japan in the different world, there's nothing the premise really provides beyond the bit of culture shock and maybe clashing ideals. Again, such things could only keep interesting or be done for so long and many isekai intend to run far longer than one volume.
Not really sure where I'm going with this beyond the fact that I think isekai was kind of a mistake. A lazy writing crutch idea where the author has a super easy time writing the first volume then can just slow down the plot and write very generic fantasy plot points for the rest of the series. There are still series I really enjoy with the isekai sub-genre, but they're far and few between.
None of this matters because isekai is just wish fulfillment power fantasy and I'm severely overthinking a sub-genre where the standard of writing is often throwing vague MMO/RPG mechanics into a real world and not considering the consequences that would have. Not sure why this thought infested my mind so much.
This is one of those. I don't even begin to understand what spurred this idea on, but it's clear something got this guy thinking about the concept.
Also description apparently roughly translates to "Solar Flares occur every day" according to DeepL. Truly a cursed punishment the people of the Rim deserve.
@Groomschild@poopernova Don't worry, she'll make sure to keep you alive as long as possible. She may be a bird brain but she's not going to take losing something she likes. Will this result in a bit of blasphemy? Possibly. Still, if it's what Okuu wants, she and the residents of Chieriden will stop at nothing to achieve it.
@MoeBritannica Flash was a very mixed bag that I feel like I'm mostly partial towards out of partial nostalgia, though I will say there is one aspect of flash that really stood out. Videos weren't static. It added a lot of extra possible flair to what you could do.
Like, oh I don't know, having unique variations up to 100 replays of one video. Or maybe having properly scaling rendering for the entire thing in 4k60fps despite nobody working on the original video ever thinking about such a thing. That last bit especially, love seeing super high quality. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZA5YixBaeE
Outside of that, yeah. The days of flash being a purely for fun thing definitely drive a lot of the nostalgia. :cirno_cry: Sadly such a project couldn't ever exist now for an inconceivable amount of reasons, of course the profit incentive being a big one (not that I think anyone really intended for it to become what it did when making it).

DunkagOnce again those playful girls are flying about the place. More bomb filled snowmen, more pit traps, and more cuteness as they all wear a few different outfits from time to time. It's a wonder Akyuu could dislike such creatures, the fairies are so lively and enjoyable to watch. Even the Hakurei doesn't do more than scold them.

DunkagFox again, and as per usual she doesn't take no for an answer. All you have to do is accept her as your wife, and everything will be fine. She's already taken over your home and started acting as such. For the fox's manipulation tactics are powerful, and sometimes nothing is more powerful as a manipulation tactic than acting as if an idea were a fact.
Momoyo is a cute girl with practically nothing on her mind but mining. She wants to eat dragon gems, so she'll tunnel through all the caves she can create to get some. Of course, befitting a girl who has entered Gensokyo she also enjoys a good fight, but mostly it's the mining. Sometimes all you need is a cheerful girl whose brain is mostly empty. Maybe some dwarves could get along with a girl like this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GUx7x2Ko3s DYNAMITE! DYNAMITE! I love this cheerful idiotic track. There is absolutely nothing on her mind except for digging. She is blowing the mine to smithereens, mining in a completely unsafe way, and just generally being a menace to everyone including herself. And we love her for it. :flan_happy:
@SuperSnekFriend I spent far too long finding this image, but I feel I must post it. It's cursed, I'm not entirely sure how or why someone was driven to make this, but I've had it on my PC for a while now so it will be shared.
It's tengu-human relationship propaganda that might be a little too descriptive.
To beat anyone else to the punch, there's also Flan Wants to Die. There's a lot of thoughts about that one, a lot of words that could be said. None of them will ever be enough though. TKmiz knows how to hit right where it hurts, and he does it with ease. It's like a second nature to him. I don't know if I'd consider this a good story involving death, but it's one that needs to be read. Mostly bitter. Arguably entirely bitter. However the moral is not that Flan actually wants to die, and that's important to remember.
