I'm disappointed. Really. So this game's first demo was a lot more mysterious and atmospheric. Things were left far more for the player to decide upon and solve. There were a few mysteries where I swore I could do something more but couldn't figure it out myself.
Now this game is lacking in that manner. RPG mechanics have been added, which is fine I guess. However the Scarlet Devil Mansion commentary has messed with the game a bit. They will nonstop keep popping in with bare-bones comments or solutions to puzzles. Their suggestions and favor really don't seem to mean much of anything right now. Situations where you can choose who you add favor to often end the same way regardless of choice. Providing solutions to puzzles wasn't a joke by the way, early on a simple puzzle relating to an enemy type is presented and a solution is nearby. Originally it didn't elaborate on that because it figured you were smart enough to understand enemy weakness after being shown. Now the SDM characters chime in to say "wow, enemy is weak to that."
Despite calling leveling fine earlier, I am actually mixed on the mechanical implementation. Choosing a SDM character to side with for influence and what you receive is fine but I also feel that it takes away from the pure dice gameplay of the first demo. It made it so the player could be backed into a corner and have to find another way out of a situation. Now the player can be over-prepared just by performing a few actions and getting a level.
