We're absolutely swamped. US education isn't itself expensive, but we have other, ongoing extractions worldwide. Those need funds literally to keep people alive. If you can help us out now it'd be very much appreciated. https://transrescue.org/donations/donate
if you have tech skills and are trying to figure out how to get to Europe, drop us a line at annie+tech@transrescue.org If you have positions open in the EU and would like to meet some fine candidates, also drop us a line at annie+tech@transrescue.org
If you're at a tech company outside the USA and they're hiring, please drop us a line at annie+hiring@transrescue.org with your requirements - We have a bunch of amazing folks available.
Add skills with a video camera and video edit software to the mix and you can be a one person rolling low budget film studio.
Start a YouTube channel or work with a media house somewhere to be their remote unit.
Help companies with sales and marketing. Run their social media account. Help target their marketing.
Tech support jobs are often remote work. Spend your day reminding customers their TV has to be plugged in and helping them replace the remote the dog ate.
Take online surveys - many marketing type researches love to ask Americans if they are interested in buying a fallout shelter or automatic meatloaf maker or whatever.
If you are bilingual, there is still call for human translators. Particularly if you have another skill like medicine.
If you can act, voice acting can be a source of income. If you also learn sound editing, video editing, and so on you can make a specialty of it.
If you doubt you can get out, know this - In the time we have been doing the 1-on-1 consults, about 80 or so of them, we have had a few people whose plan was to delay, but no one we couldn't help find a realistic plan. We can imagine circumstances we can't solve, but you can always get out.
Option 1 - Border hangout - Move to Seattle or Buffalo or such. Start making friends and contacts across the border. Cross frequently. Rent a room with someone. If questioned about your travel, claim to have a romantic partner in CA. Retain your US bank account and "officially" live in the USA with a PO box or friend as address. Work your contacts to get a job and apply for a work permit. If things get truly ugly, Canada may be more willing to accept your presence.
Option 7 - Rentista visa Many countries have "rentista" visas. You prove you have an ongoing income derived from remote work. You are allowed to live in the host country more or less permanently, as long as you derive your income from outside the country. This is a great deal for the host, as all your income is money flowing into their economy.
It's likely that over the next couple of months, a lot of trans Americans will leave their country. They may arrive on tourist visas and without means, and we of the trans community in places like Europe must step up to the plate.
We must organise ourselves to be ready for them, and be prepared to have an American trans escapee sleeping on our sofa or in our spare room by January.
Many of us feel as though there's nothing we can do, and here's a way in which we can help.
Americans: if you're thinking of leaving, beware before considering an asylum claim.
"Safe" countries have treaties recognising each other as safe, and do not recognise asylum claims from each other as valid. So if you as an American try to claim asylum there, at the moment you will be automatically rejected.
Instead, travel on a tourist visa. If things get bad for US trans people, this may eventually change.
We have a really freaking urgent case. We're trying to raise 2000 EUR in the next 48 hours to support an extraction. We do the extraction, a #trans guy lives. We don't do the extraction, he will be dead in a month or two. There will be no more chances after this. I'm sickened - I don't know if we're going to have the funds. Please, if you can, help. Now's the time #TransRights#transrightsarehumanrights #mutualaid
We are still facing a serious shortfall. We have a #trans passenger who has probably been abducted, and are trying to raise 1500 EUR to deal with the situation. We have currently raised about 500 EUR of the amount. Please help. #transrightsarehumanrights #humanrights #TransRights #lgbt#lgbtqia#gay
We are a Dutch NGO that helps trans and other queer people escape from danger, mostly by migrating.https://transrescue.org/#Trans #Refugee #Migration #Africa #MiddleEast #Genocide #Transgender #TransRightsAreHumanRights
