@dalias @aeva not to mention those of us who already do tech work for free, most of whom are limited by our lack of money and time due to capitalism. I have so many projects I could be contributing to or maintaining if I didn't have to constantly be worrying about how I'm gonna survive and help my loved ones survive. Every good FOSS project without corporate backers would be so much better if its devs didn't have to worry about survival. They could start really competing with corporate tech.

1) kids who are not at all interested in politics probably won't vote anyway
2) personally I was writing youth liberation zines (without the language) at 10, so I am absolutely positive there are kids at least that young with real political opinions they should be allowed to express in a way that makes a difference
3) some kids will be coerced into voting for XYZ. I see no difference between them and the many adults that are 🤷

@clarity I'm sure you're right, but I'm really curious about what specifically you're talking about. Placebo? Prayer? Both?

If we reach a turning point where the only businesses that can stay in business are the ones that aren't being leeched off of by investors and run by capitalists trying to get as much value from the working class as possible without even paying us to work, I'm all for that 🤷 out with the techbros, in with the co-ops

I've had at least one experience where the doctor saw the M on my chart, took me seriously, learned I have a uterus, and immediately ceased to take me seriously. It was night and day, and it was astonishing being able to view his behavior from both a male and a female perspective. Any cis men reading along, if you think a (male and assumed cis) doctor is great and really listens, ask a woman how he acts without you in the room!

@Epic_Null @dalias @juliette IDT the goal is for kids not to exist. I think it's for them not to develop as people. For them not to grow into individuals who can realize that these systems are unfair and their parents are abusive. My generation grew up with internet-facilitated sex education, abuse education, and history education. The rich people who built the education systems to starve us of that information don't like that. Nor do groomers or abusive parents.

If a cis person is uncomfortable because we're talking about being trans, they need to be uncomfortable. If an abled is uncomfortable when we talk about ableism, they need to be uncomfortable. If a white person is uncomfortable when a Black person is talking about racism, they/we need to be uncomfortable. Treating cognitive dissonance the same as a PTSD trigger only helps the oppressors

@arti @agnes @Fragglemuppet @carusb there was a post going around about LLM generated alt text the other day, and a lot of people see it as useless even if it's in the actual alt text field (because it doesn't describe the *purpose* of the image, just the visible details and those are frequently inaccurate anyway)
So yeah... Those bots aren't doing nearly as much as a person writing the alt text in the image they're posting. Whether they're completely useless is an individual opinion

@vapaad @jepyang idk if I'd go so far as to say forced vaccines don't improve public health. They sure improve the health of people who can't get vaccines for medical reasons, or in the cases of vaccines that aren't 100% effective (like COVID), the more people have the vaccine the less likely we *all* are to get infected
But I agree that forcing isn't the best way to do that. Education and encouragement/reward would be better

@foone neurotypicals will say autistic people are bad at following directions and then completely ignore most driving rules (especially the ones that even anarchists follow for safety reasons)

@Myotis_cuniculus @skeletor the revolution started a hot minute ago, most people just haven't committed to it or found our niche yet. The most obvious front lines I can think of right now in the US are Portland and Chicago. Any of us in or near these cities (and I imagine also LA and DC, although I haven't heard as much about them lately) have at least one concrete location we can go to if we feel the need to contribute more today

When white people told him he was being racist, it was "civil" discussion. When Black people told him the same, it was "escalation" 😬

@tillshadeisgone I really thought once those articles about Blacksky and actual ATProto decentralization went around, maybe people would stop saying that fedi is better than BlueSky specifically because it's decentralized... That's on me, I guess, for forgetting the tendency among comfortable white people to just ignore any evidence countering their worldview. Of fucking course it just "doesn't count"

Ugghhhh the only thing worse than landlords is corporations as landlords. If every landlord was a person who owned an extra building or two, I'd still say ALAB but at least we'd all have someone to harass you know?
