I'm hoping the fediverse might be able to help.

Our (very old) Chromecast has died and I need something to replace it that will play content from the various apps on my phone (i.e iPlayer, YouTube, Netflix etc) to my dumb TV. It doesn't seem possible to buy a Chromecast anymore and I'm not buying a new TV. I am willing to provision a spare raspberry pi or buy a new gadget, it's just not obvious what the options are.

@cstross in Manchester, the city council is investing loads in building new offices for the public sector and selling land to sell to the private sector to build more offices. The city centre has been a building site for over a decade and it's still going. I don't understand why they think this is a good idea? Are they just hoping it will become someone else's problem before the crash and what happens to those of us who live here?

Here are some more photos of these wonderful birds. They're usually hidden amongst the reeds and very hard to see, but in autumn they come out to visit the grit trays, giving us a chance to observe them.

I have a petition out to stop the advertising of SUVs. It's a small thing in the scheme of things, but right now people are being told that the heavier the vehicle the "better" it is. For those of us walking or on a 12kg cycle, it's a real and increasing problem.
