This is where we are heading.
Governments, in aggregate, still plan to produce more than double the amount of fossil fuels in 2030 than would be consistent with limiting warming to 1.5°C. The persistence of the global production gap puts a well-managed and equitable energy transition at risk.
https://productiongap.org/2023report/
The shown graph from the Production Gap Report shows the huge differences in planned production of fossil fuels and the quantities necessary to possibly limit global temperature rises of 1,5 or2 degrees.
We are talking about a factor 2 to 3,5 more production over the years 2020 to 2050

The World Climate Organization waves the red flag about the climate.
Their newest report shows that records were once again broken, and in some cases smashed, for greenhouse gas levels, surface temperatures, ocean heat and #acidification , #SeaLevelRise , Antarctic sea ice cover and glacier retreat.
2023 was the warmest year on record, with the global average temperature at 1.45 °Celsius above the pre-industrial baseline. It was the warmest ten-year period on record.
Here's their animated summary in 75 seconds with some uplifting back-ground music:
Remarkably enough, after 1 minute of doom and gloom about the situation, the animation ends with the message "There is still hope". You know the gig, #renewables #GreenNewDeal #GreenWashing etc.

Let me also share another video, which was made almost 40 years ago in 1985. It's Carl Sagan testifying before US congress:

He tells us:
"... there are effects that have long time consequences. If you don't worry about it now, it's too late later on. So in this issue, as in so many others, we are passing on extremely grave problems for our children, when the time to solve these problems, if they can be solved, is NOW!"

I guess vapes are just another excellent example of "Business-as-Usual":
Develop a new product to keep people addicted to habits that are both bad for themselves and for the planet.
They really serve no other purpose whatsoever than ripping people of and sustaining a consumerist culture.
Researcher, author, information-junkie and iconoclast. Originally, my field of research was mainly technology, but over the years it has shifted to the areas of sociology, philosophy and real sustainability, especially in practice.I'm the author of the book "Crash Course" - On Your Future in the Anthropocene. It's a common sense approach to real sustainability, collapse, ecocentrism and resilience...#fedi22#CrashCourse #climate #ClimateCrisis #nature #permaculture #technology #sociology #TechnoFix. #ecocentrism #ecology #deepgreen
