Had a dream. In the dream I was back on a job I had in the 2010s. In this job we had a kitchenette with two tables where a dozen or so people could have lunch at the same time. So I was having lunch there and in came a dark knight made out of PS2 era polygons. Not TV polygons but polygons made real. They were a temp. Filling time between videogame gigs. Their food, after they'd heated it in the microwave, smelled delicious. Although they opened up their helmet to eat, their face remained unseen.

I generally dislike FPS games but every few years I try a Doom game to see if I finally get it. Since I uninstalled Sniper Elite (not FPS but shoot+guns) I decided to try Doom 2016 (because shoot+guns)... Nope, I still don't "get" it. Probably just me.

What is the best FPS ever?

Windows 11 annoyance of the day. AFAIK, you cannot set or influence the font size of only just the Explorer. You have to scale font size on an OS wide level. Again, AFAIK

I know for a fact MS has amazing programmers. So I feel stuff like that has to be by design, like MS _wants_ Win11 to be not great.

Thinking what would need to happen for peeps to finally acknowledge things are "on the wrong path" and I wonder if a massive Internet outage would prolly be it. I imagine US cutting all marine fiber and going all-in on self-isolation and... Zeus-dammit, am I rewriting "The Handmaiden's Tale" in my head again?

The more work I have the more my brain says, "fuck this, man, let's do some gamedev! Here are some neat ideas!..."

From what I remember, I don't think the chess game in the story is of any consequence. It's symbolism.

The story has to do more, I think, about human nature, about social classes, about how people behave.

If I can find the story, I can find the book, I want the book. I lost it many decades ago but cannot remember the title or the year. Thanks again.

Since I have a bunch of new followers, I want to ask about a book I'm trying to find or the title of one of the short stories that was in it.

Bear in mind, I know how to use search engines, and how to use the InternetArchive and ProjectGutenberg

You can find similar stories by doing a cursory search, but that will not be the one.

It is NOT the one about prisoners acting as chess pieces. LOL

When I was in college some 30+ years ago, I was in a creative writing course, the course used an anthology book, in English, with many short stories, maybe essays and poems too.

One of the short stories, has a man moving to a city and trying to find work. The job he can get is to put on a chess piece costume for rich people. The rich people leave when it starts to rain. The paper mache of the pieces starts falling apart. And some of the pieces/people start fighting.

What's the title, please!??

YouTube is increasingly toxic lately or am i just being overly sensitive?

Example 1: The algorithm used to give me gamedev videos that were tutorials, or about graphics. Now the gamedev videos tend to be focused on money/marketing.

Example 2: I clicked a video that I did not know would have JBlow in it. Now YouTube thinks I am a huge JBlow fan *smh*

Of course, I know, it's my own damn fault for still using YouTube
