am I missing anything here? couldn't fedi clients provide a local link next to URLs that point to a remote post? this would help when people refer to other posts by pasting a URL, because it would stop you from having to open it in a new tab, and it would let you take actions on it right away like liking/boosting.

  @smitten@portend.place hm, there's nothing within the api that would let me nudge that server without a session and ask for a specific post, or a specific user so the same like/follow link (or whatever) could be reconstructed locally? Maybe it could be done in a hacky way by just reading the page like any generic logged out user and copying those links, lmao. I'm not a huge web dev but I know cross site stuff is a whole Thing, i just feel like if i can go and get that stuff as a user with a browser there must be a way for it to be done for me

@weird_autumn I don't understand it super well but getting boosted helps other servers become aware of you and at some point they start sending you posts? idk if someone has to follow you or what. so I always see people asking for help to get their new instance federating

  @april@lethallava.land please read my comment to you and my above post. After a lot of work over the last couple weeks, testing many different fixes to both the code and our deployment infrastructure, we THOUGHT that we would be able to handle signups, so we opened them. From that, it turns out there was more work to be done. We then closed signups. Please, tell me if there's something else in that you don't understand.
