@skinnylatte like if people actually believe that they should be saying "therefore we should make it easy to switch jobs" or "therefore there should be oversight of the program that penalizes abusive corporations while protecting H1-B workers" but the fact they don't is revealing
(It's also gross given that California just voted to continue making actual forced labour legal or that like there are people who can't afford immigration lawyers having their passports taken away and forced to work)
A big part of it is that most people are not experiencing the standard of living they would expect given the fact that they have more opportunities than almost anyone and live in a wealthier country than most of the rest of the world. But that is a problem you will never fix by blaming people from other countries, that's a problem that needs to be solved from within the US
I think a big part of the assumption even among liberals or leftists that H1-Bs are paid less is the belief that non-Americans must be less qualified. I think a lot of people are not ready for the idea that things are actually currently rigged in their favour; that there are tons of people from other countries that are more skilled or educated or otherwise qualified than them and that resources being concentrated in the US actually are giving them a giant advantage over most people in the world
I don't know if it was just me but I asked the bay area yarn crawl to be a bit more public transit friendly in my feedback last year and they just posted a muni yarn crawl!
Vancouver lets you use your credit card to take the bus and I'm reading up on all the details because part of me can't believe that such advanced technology could possibly work
@skinnylatte also needs to be things that can cross the border without explaining them to customs officials during the busiest time of the year, unfortunately
@skinnylatte I have the problem of my family being in this ambiguous space of doing gifts but only kind of because it's not really our culture and we have not figured out or agreed on what our cultural norms are (this is true of the holidays in general)
I mostly post about very local transportation issues in SF and car free life and activism, sometimes other interests like fibre arts or like a cool tree that I saw. I generally won't approve follows from strangers with too few posts for me to see what you're about. If I followed you cause you post art or something, you're welcome to follow back, but it's fine if you don't want to hear about bike lanes.Originally from Canada.
