@liztai@hachyderm.io@rakyat@hachyderm.io can't help there because I'm pretty secure in how I identify. But if it helps, I don't think you need to choose at all. Do whatever feels right, and screw whoever who says you're not enough whatever
It's not the kind of unsafe of "afraid my possessions will get grabbed." I have not felt that fear in Malaysia.
I know we had our race riots and I haven't been back very much in the eight years so maybe things have changed. Maybe the atmosphere is a lot more stifling now irl. But that's my observation based on my experiences la
@liztai@hachyderm.io@rakyat@hachyderm.io hm. Different I think. I just woke up. Maybe I'll get more articulate later. But there's no pressure to be anything but yourself/your own culture in malaysia (at least I don't feel that there's a push to "assimilate" into something). I wager the identity push/pull is even stronger there, especially since in general Malaysians are actually quite chill.
I won't get yelled at on the streets for stealing jobs, causing Covid or whatever in Malaysia.
@liztai@hachyderm.io You can complain about the sinophobia too? Imo, it's not oppression Olympics. And sometimes, it's a matter of being able to recognize some -isms better due to lived experience.
Sorry, your article is behind subscription wall and I'm a little lazy.
I remember the IC leaks! idk just because we have I.C. doesn't mean it's good. we're just used to it, and nobody seems to realize just how much of a security risk it is
@_ohcoco_@mastodon.social as far as I know, you can't see historical posts shared by the group account. It's more like an email list... if you follow the group, then future posts by anyone that tags the group will appear on your home timeline, do correct me if I'm wrong, @feditips@mstdn.social!
@smokler@mastodon.social Groups are like mailing lists. You can join the mailing list by following the group (e.g., I can follow @/fantasy@/a.gup.pe - I added the slash so it doesn't spam the tag) for discussions about fantasy books/movies. Everything you post that tags this group will appear in the home timeline of everyone who follows this group. Of course, this means you will see all posts that tagged this group too. This works even if the poster is on a server that is not federated/connected to your server. You can explore what groups are available in the second link provided. I hope that helps @feditips@mstdn.social
@smokler@mastodon.social You don't need to understand federation to do groups! But someday you might want to try to, because it is a pretty core to how fediverse works. Feditips is a great account who gives all these tips and compile suggested follow lists on a volunteer basis, so I do hope that you can be kinder in the way you communicate with them too. Have a good day
@feditips@mstdn.social thank you! I'm thinking of something different, like a curated list of hashtags to get people started on some topics but this definitely helps
