We New College alums have been putting on an alt-commencement since the 2023 DeSantis takeover. Maya Wiley, Masha Gessen, Viet Thanh Nguyen so far. You can look up the speakers for the official commencements, but you might not have the stomach (started with Scott Atlas).

@inthehands Seems to me that this discussion needs to start with being clear on how we define “slave”. I think we would not be inclined to call a Unix box with a CLI a slave, but it’s bought, sold & owned, and “slavishly” follows orders. I’d say that it has to do with our attribution of agency, and that even if we deny that LLMs have agency, they simulate agency well enough to feel like slaves.

@kims JKL here; if I were not long past the need for a business card, I’d steal the design. (I worked with JK back in the 80s when I was doing some freelance hardware design for Plexus, and we were all still children.)

Yes, more, please. I hail from far NW MN, and the nearest listed rally was in Thief River Falls, an hour drive from my dinky home town.

In a group of photos of big rallies, I saw one of maybe a dozen people in Petrolia CA (pop 300-500 per Wikipedia). Like that.

@inthehands Massive rallies are good. But I’d like to see way more small rallies in small towns, especially red ones (not hard to find). Let more people see for themselves that the resistance is everywhere, that it’s their neighbors and families.

Truly. There was an election soon after I moved back to MN. I voted with no registration & no MN ID, with my sister vouching for me. Painless.
