People who use fedi really need to start to understand the privacy rights they *think* they have over their posts, and the ones that they actually have, have not expressly signed away via their instance's privacy policy, or are capable of enforcing.

"Oh noes, this bridge to Bluesky isn't opt-in!" Guess what else isn't opt-in - everyone else using *the basic functioning of ActivityPub* to read your posts, including numerous known bad actors, without you even knowing they're doing so!

Whoever started putting about this absolute weapons grade bollocks has so much to answer for. It's just fundamentally not true at all.

(tl;dr corporation taxes are assessed on profit, an additional donation expense would be cancelled out by a matching gain in revenue meaning no change in profit and therefore in tax paid. The supermarkets do this because it gives them a reputational benefit - it actually costs them money in admin and additional card fees.)

The thing about ActivityPub, the greatest social networking protocol ever devised, is that it's so obviously brilliant and resilient that it should be the backbone of every single social service going, but also if Threads interfaces with it even slightly, the whole thing will collapse and be full of ads and unusable. That's just how it works and the people pushing this sort of crap are not catastrophising at all. #meta #fedimeta

People who look at the "this app will use X data" sections of app stores and use them as a gotcha without considering the functionality of the actual app and what permissions it needs are the liberal-left equivalent of people who point at medication side effects and say you should eat leaves instead

The best apps use no APIs at all and require no permissions whatsoever. That's what I learned from the privacy geniuses on Mastodon dot social today
