When I left Facebook I lost a bunch of people who are never leaving Facebook. When I left WhatsApp I had to keep WhatsApp because of the many people who will never leave WhatsApp. When I left Twitter I lost almost everyone I knew on Twitter. Leaving Telegram means losing yet another set of people. I’m tired.

@tokyo_0 Thank you. Most of the clothes shops in this small town have closed, so cheap was out, but I found a good pair at Marks & Spencer and will be wearing them awhile

Left most of my warm weather clothes in Greece and northern England is having one of its rare humid heatwaves so off to town I go in a flowery dress (I very rarely wear dresses) to see if I can buy myself a pair of cheap shorts I don’t hate.

There’s a post going round asking if your fantasy game farming is US-style or European, and not only does Central Europe not define what is European, but *there are other options, continents of them*, so if you’re building any kind of fantasy, please consider what affects land-use patterns in many different kinds of places.

I only know my part of the world well, but even there, the Germanic assertion that all the land in Europe has been long parcelled out and there is no wilderness is absurd. Mountain summer pastures on land too rocky to farm, too isolated in winter to live on full time, and too far from large villages to transport perishables from, eg, are common in the Balkans, and transhumant herders used them into this century.
Not every rural economy has wheat fields and cows.

In practice…
I rather suspect the reasons are funding reasons. It would be extremely difficult for a US production with no English in it to find the money. Yes, that culture should be changed - it is changing, and the Shogun show is part of that change.
It would also be hard to find the actors, and not just the Portuguese-speakers. I don’t think it’s accidental 3 (at least - the ones I recognise) of the Japanese actors have US

@youronlyone you mean they should be using Portuguese for Portuguese? I get where you’re coming from, but I can see an argument for saying an adaptation of a novel written in English in which the English protagonist understands Portuguese and is fluent in it to the point where the book’s narration language and dialogue are both written in English can have English dialogue.
