(To be perfectly clear: you're allowed to shitpost, to whine, to make silly noises, to have deep philosophical discussions about teapots - if you don't want to disrupt the timeline you can put it behind a content warning, and/or post as 'unlisted' , and we'd encourage that for any chat that leans towards being 'heavy' or negative in mood - it's totally fine to post it, but give people the opt-in to read it ^.^)

If you're posting a piece of art / craft / something that's for sale, say that it's for sale and post your shop links (or price and postage info) in the toot.

You can do this for everything that you post that's for sale.

PSA for instance admins!

Emojis are art that was created by someone. The custom emojis you see on different instances were made by people for those instances, or are used fairly and the license for their use has been shared on the instance's /about page.

Often, as is the case with .art, some emojis were commissioned and paid for by the instance admin, and the people who made them are credited in the /about page if they requested.

When you're writing hashtags that are a combination of several words, please use camel case (LikeThis instead of likethis) - camel case helps screenreaders read the tag as two separate words, rather than trying to read the hashtag as one word.

On Local timelines and finding people based on interest!

The local timeline shows 'local' content - the content that's local to the instance you're on. The way the fediverse works, you choose a server based on a moderation style you're comfortable with and a community that interests you, then discovery of other users happens through hashtags, so you can fill your home feed with relevant content (and for a lot of people, they only view their 'home' feed and don't watch local as much).

We have a lot of really big, professional artists signing up on .art over the last few days, and it can be daunting posting your art here in the face of their work.

I want you to know that I'll still emphasise boosting art from small artists. This is a space for us to learn and grow and support each other, to motivate each other and to squash our impostor syndrome because it's a stinky lying liarpants.
