I’m not entirely clear as to what’s going on with Threads but it looks an awful lot like they’re setting up a vampire-style attack on any server that federates with them since the only way to fully participate is to move to Threads, thereby draining the active users on Mastodon and elsewhere (which in turn makes being here less valuable). Is that about right or am I missing something?
I’M ON MASTODON WHICH I THINK IS MOSTLY TRANS QUEER AND FURRY SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS AND INFOSEC PEOPLE AND EVERYONE ELSE IS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO POST THINGS WITHOUT BEING OFFENSIVE
Someone recently posted a hot tip about adding "before:2023" to Google web searches and I forget who it was but wow what a huge difference it makes. So thank you to whoever that was. It gets rid of so much AI-generated SEO crap.
Apparently there was a time when OpenAI assured its users that it would not use any user inputs to train their models or for any other purposes but that time has since passed.
As a U.S. Army veteran I don’t understand how any of my fellow veterans — who were willing to fight and die for their country and swore an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic” — are now willing to throw all of it away by supporting an insurrectionist who has made it clear he intends to dismantle everything that makes this country great if he becomes President again.
Being a lawyer is okay I guess but I've been thinking about taking up thaumaturgy. Does anyone have any recommendations for quick start guides? :blobwizard:
EDIT: And none of that card trick or pulling a rabbit out of a hat type stuff. I mean real thaumaturgy TIA.
I need to give a big thank you to the #Mastodon community.
A few weeks ago two of my relatives began identifying as #trans and if I hadn’t been here absorbing and learning for the past year I probably would not be as accepting and supportive of their choices as I am now.
I may have gotten there eventually but that’s not something I have to worry about.
So thank you to everyone here who opened my eyes and my mind. 🙏
Silver Lining 101: My decision to unsubscribe from and stop supporting any #Substack authors after its CEO Chris Best was unwilling to take a position on the statement that “all brown people are animals” in April was the correct one. :blobcatcoffee:
This article is both exciting and scary - I'm already cringing at the thought of a16z and the like trying to co-opt the fediverse movement just as they did with crypto and "Web3"... 😬
All that being said, if I was a software developer trying to come up with a new startup idea I think the fediverse would be a great place to set up shop... :blobcatcoffee:
I've seen a lot of folks recently return to Mastodon after being gone for a few months. The only thing I have to say to those people is, "Welcome back! We're glad you're here!" 😊
If it took TFG's use of the term "vermin" for journalists to finally realize that he's a full-blown authoritarian fascist they haven't been paying any attention for the past 6+ years, have they? 🤔
1. Elon Musk says a thing 2. Major news outlets report on the thing Elon Musk says 3. Several days, weeks or months later it becomes obvious that Elon Musk was completely full of sh*t when he said the thing 4. Repeat steps 1-3 ad infinitum
Please don't use #ChatGPT to generate simple #legal documents like an NDA. There are so many free templates out there. It makes zero sense to generate something that is guaranteed to be full of errors and which then (1) the other party is going to have to pay their attorney to revise and (2) you'll need to pay a lawyer or spend your own time going through and reviewing the revisions.
I even posted a free one on my website - use that - I beg you - just not ChatGPT🙏
