It's very easy (especially in Australia) to get into the 'yeah, that's good enough' mindset about stuff - and for a lot of things, that's fine and just and right - but it can get into your brain for everything.

Sometimes, it's nice and just and right to do something as well as you can, even if the materials you start with aren't the best.

Buying (and doing) cheap #Aliexpress #gunpla has taught me a number of things.

One of which is, there's probably a maximum 'best' you can get out of something, given its starting point. If you get a kit where ALL the green parts are 2% bigger than they should be, it's just gonna look wrong, no matter what you do (even if you sit and patiently sand stuff down, it's just not gonna get there).

But, it's worth spending the time to do the best job you can do, for your own sake, if nothing else.

Trying out the #Aliexpress refund process on one of the rando little $3 items I never got from ordering in October. Usually I shrug and move on, but we'll see how it goes.

Ok, this is legitimately large.

Basically, these are like the gold-spray on that kit I finished yesterday - if you file it, you scrape the coating off and it looks worse than rough nubs.

There's no winning here unless you paint it.

The plastic is, sadly not amazing - but they are pretty cheap (~$13 ea) and they clip together.

While I do appreciate seeing cash-money data, I'm very impressed at this person's output, either way:

I mean, blah, etc, if someone's doing it full time, then yeah they're gonna be churning a bit.

It's still interesting to see someone with 110+ titles in their back catalogue, even if they're only in the 8k word range.

It's interesting how a site that's basically 'plz don't advertise here' is seen as predatory?

I mean, on one hand yes, they're making money off your content if you're posting there, but on the other hand it's not as though they're publishing your shit, selling it to fuel AI, or making you sign non-compete exclusionary contracts?
