@mattl I’ve had SO MANY of these, eg I bought topicalfish dot com in early 2000s & prototyped a microblogging service, basically a fish-themed Twitter, but didn’t launch as I didn’t feel I had the clout to build momentum or skills to scale it if it did grow

@paulsilver Had one client with hosting that was CONSTANTLY sending them scary warning emails & trying to upsell security package, was a pain to deal with as you obviously don't want to tell them to ignore every warning about anything

For THIRTY YEARS now it's made sense for creative people to have their own site as the 'hub' of their online presence, but most still go "nah, I'll just keep shovelling everything into the most popular platforms even though it disappears in minutes & they'll do bad things with it"
