Demagogue.

What I can't figure out.... is who collects, remits & enforces #tariffs ?

With a tax... the seller does. But Canada won't be adding this to our US-bound invoices. Are American buyers supposed to just be honest & pay it? Is US border patrol stopping physical shipments and charging a fee at the border like with import duty?

Will this spawn a bunch of "under the table" shipping?

How does the accounting around this just spring up over night? 🤔

The problem is that a lot of people see "government funded" as the opposite of independent. Like if the feds pay all your bills, can you truely criticise them?

Maybe a more diversified funding model spreads that risk.

Public #media gets a lot of hate in #Canada.... but I definitely get more than $33/y of value from the #CBC.

And funding has been squeezing for years so we're probably even lower now.

Can't think of much else that is this efficient tbh.

People (looking at you women) don't talk enough about what a load it is to be the person primarily responsible for making dinner for the family.

- It has to be nutritious, varied & affordable.
- You have to pre-plan it to some degree - moreso if there's elements to defrost.
- Any pre-cooking prep.
- The actual cooking work.
- Adding used ingredients to the shopping list.
- Tidy & serve.
- Deal with people's (kids') reactions.

It's the most onerous part of my day.

If you aren't the spouse who cooks you are both very lucky & better darn well be doing the dishes.

I know I know, people exist who *like* cooking. These people are blessed & I'm very jealous of them. 😆

Omg case in point.

Yesterday I got really fancy (for me) and made roasted potatoes in the air fryer, a meat and veggie stirfry and an Asian coleslaw. I was in the kitchen for at least 2 hours all together.

So today, lots of computer work so I planned to go easy tonight and make frozen meat pies. We love them.

Well I went to grab the boxes from the freezer only to discover they are the mini ones and I only have 4 (family of 5). Now I'm scrambling to add more to this meal at the 11th hour. 😣

Hey #storage geeks.... is there anything like a #Linux GUI interface for #Rsync or #Rclone that will let me feel like I'm using something like DropBox but it's actually syncing to some #S3 compatible storage?

Musing on some thoughts for #Mastodon abuse #moderation techniques.

What if people could 'subscribe' to the block list of people they follow. Assuming that following someone implies a mild level of trust & "I kinda like similar things this person likes." Then as people I follow identify trolls & abusive commenters & block them... then those blocks spread to their network proactively.

Would be opt-in and may even later expand to allowing someone to 'share' their block at the time of blocking. 🤔

The series was the rare time I got my husband to play a shooter with me. I tricked him by emphasizing the rpg-style character levelling & loot. lol

We've played 1, 2 & the Pre-Sequel.... and it was never really for the story. 😆 I didn't even know it was onto a number 4! Our next gen console was a Switch so we sadly got off the games.

@BeAware I noticed they practically tripled the age of several characters & totally whiffed on casting Roland.... so it went from a movie I was excited about to one I'm scared about. 😓

And I like those actors! But come on.

I don't know how they talked themselves into the idea that Media uploads are 'posts' but this is really bad architecture.

Like guys... there isn't a limit on the number of SQL tables you can have. It's not DB golf where fewer tables = better. 🤦♀️

@sand I made the choice early on to let my kids be bored & miserable to force them to learn to amuse themselves. I got major side-eye from other parents... but the good news is that they do eventually get much much better at it & they develop a lot of creativity.

Don't feel guilty for not entertaining them constantly.

I'm impressed that the Canadian Conservatives have convinced people that if they vote for them, they will "axe the (carbon) tax" and therefore corporations will definitely, surely, no doubt, 100% pass those savings back to consumers.

For a party that claims to be full of anti-regulation pro-capitalists, they sure have a voting base of gullible dreamers. 🤦♀️
