@john lemmy is great and all, but if the bots overwhelm those servers soon enough lemmy admins will be in a similar position about figuring out how not to bear an undue burden.

Internet used to be able to operate as library it has become increasingly like a store, and now there are robots ransacking the parts that remain library like on behalf of the companies that want it to be a more monopolized store, this sucks and I don't know the solution

@Gargron A lot of good points here. I support boycotting all these companies / services. And it sure does have the vibe of a tax fraud scheme or something.

At the same time I do worry a bit. Some of these guys (all guys of course 😑) also have fingers in a big open source projects, and, of course, if you want to boycott Rails or Neovim that is fine, but beware schismogenesis. Don't create the distinction in your mind that those use those open source tools or frameworks are guilty too.

In our neighborhood today a teen was just taken from his car. Groceries left in the front seat. Probably he was just out shopping for his family who are sheltering at home.

We've been seeing this at the grocery store, young kids doing the shopping with their parents on a video call. The assumption maybe is the kids are natural born citizens and definitely not criminals or whatever so ICE would leave them alone.

We have tried to really limit the news we share with our kids, especially the scarier stuff, but our 6 year old knows enough of what is going on to be able to come up with this sign on her own, she made it for me to take to a protest.

Glad for all the protesters today in #minneapolis.

Come Monday I'll be back out at schools making sure more kids don't get abducted, at least not without anyone knowing about it.

Over the years I have been developing a pretty severe distaste for Figma, without getting into it too much, it does a lot of little things that just make it feel hostile to the platform, if the platform being designed for is the web.

https://penpot.app/ looks like it might address a lot of that. Curious if others have tried it and seen any of the advertised benefits play out.

Besides the tone though, what is "clearly better" for devs is not always what is most popular. Suggest what you like, obviously it is your prerogative, but others aren't stupid for pointing out that other options in the category "free and open source" also exist

@killyourfm @ernie If you have a AMD or intel graphics card that you will basically never even have to think about graphic driver install or upgrades cause it is all built in is maybe worth touching on. overlaps with that upgrades not headache and gaming is easy stuff
