last time i paid nearly 10k to have the gearbox, transfer case, and rear diff rebuilt about 7 years ago, and I've got about 13.5k of credit I can call on right now and the gearbox was the highest dollar value item last time. i would like to make sure i have money left over though to tart the truck up a wee bit before i drive it to brisbane

really impressed with this battery jump starter box thing though, about the size of a box of kleenex, 56Wh battery, dedicated 12v input and output, and has a usb-c input for charging using a regular laptop style usb-c charger. Not sure I'm a fan of using USB-C for such high wattage but eh the industry has decided it doesn't care about that apparently. I wonder if the USB-C is an output as well, be cool if it could charge a laptop while out on the road and then recharge it using 12V when driving. Not having to deal with dorky jumper leads is really nice though, units self contained with its own bulldog clips on short pigtails.

it reckons it can jumpstart up to an 8L displacement petrol engine and a 6L diesel. Mine was just an old pig of a 4.2L diesel and it took a few goes but yeah it got there.

so that's gonna be a super handy part of my vehicle recovery kit now

more items ticked off the todolist, got the truck registered, bought the emergency jumper pack box thingy instead of a regular 12v battery charger, managed to get the big 4.2L iron pig of an engine in the truck going with it quite easily, and dropped the truck off at the shop. Not convinced now it was the rear diff, wondering if it's actually the transfer case that's gone bang but I guess we'll see when he drops the oil pans on both and sees which one has delicious metal cereal treats in it.

Probably gonna be off fedi for 12-24hrs at some point soon, getting my VPS relocated back to straya from Germany. It got relocated there when the vps providers original AU dc provider went belly up, but they’ve reopened the region in another DC now so time to bring the VPS back home.
