To be honest, my priority right now is to be able to export my data, which I can't do at the moment.

Then, about forks, perhaps I would advise you guys to stick to mainstream binaries: as much as I loved QOTO's unique features and extra goodies, I would prefer stability and reliability long-term over fancy stuff…

Are those known?

Even after the switch from Twitter to #Mastodon, and even after migrating from my previous instance to the haven that is @QOTO, I keep on having occasional discussions that I find very frustrating.

@fidel’s words yesterday resonate with me:

“I wasn’t anticipating […] the mental and emotional effort of opposing the hegemonic zeitgeist. This is something that has taken a toll on my happiness and mental health. It would be easy to bow to the majority and return to the fold, to avoid #arguments and #fights, but I think I would feel bad about myself for intellectual dishonesty. […] One thing is the ideas you have and another is that you do not want or can dedicate greater efforts to supporting them in opposition to almost the entire society. I will focus on educating my children in the values that I want to see in the world. […] I will dedicate #SocialNetworks only to the topics that interest me […] and I will reduce ideological topics.”

I’m thinking of giving up #microblogging, at least for a while.

I’m surprised you’re in favour of subsidies for churches (or “any other nonprofit so long as they operate as a nonprofit”). I’m against subsidies for all those institutions in general — churches are just one category.

In fact, I take it even further: no subsidies for non-profits nor for-profits, in principle. One possible exception (there may be others): industries that are vital for national security or for long-term survival etc.

Most people are so binary in their thinking,

and the tenets of “the #left” and those of “the #right” have shifted so much (sometimes even exchanging places) in the last couple of decades,

that I want to write a post titled “Am I on the Right?”

(kind of like #BrendanOneill did)

listing all the views I have that would be automatically considered left-wing by many people today.

And then perhaps “Am I on the Left?”, too.

• I want all drugs to be legal for adults (but also regulated)
• I think the State should be completely secular (no official religion, no subsidies for churches, no mentions of god)

I don’t think it’s about preventing victims from reviving their trauma.

For that, we have rating systems, advisories, reviews and art critics. And adult consumers can immediately quit whatever they are reading, watching or listening to.

Also, whoever has been ever tortured, beaten, or attacked may be a survivor of a murder attempt — and they are definitely a survivor of violence. Wouldn’t all those people be “triggered” by depictions of violence, too?

Honest question:

Why are works of #fiction (books, comic, animation, film) depicting #rape or #pedophilia more offensive to more people and cause more calls to boycott or censorship than fiction depicting extreme #violence or #murder, when killing someone is universally regarded as worse than raping someone (morally worse) and criminal systems everywhere punish murderers more harshly than rapists (legally worse)?
