The utter whiplash of "the US is an empire which overthrows any democracy in its sphere of influence which dares to act against US energy security interests" going from being seen as a crank leftist opinion 365 days ago to "why are you explaining this obvious thing"

Yesterday I overheard a couple of guys discussing category theory, which was surprising because usually you'd expect at least one trans girl

I think the plan is:
- VPN at the router, but not on the default bridge
- Separate vlan for VPN
- Separate WiFi for the vlan
- Network namespace on linux
- Lightweight linux VM on macThat way the easy way to use the VPN is to switch wifi networks, while my computers get per-app network routes

A red hat is a fucking red hat. I don't care if it says something clever because I probably won't see it.
You're just using their branding and you look like one of them.

It's great folks are talking about internet resiliency, but resist the temptation to go build the cool fun mesh network first and then the services that run on it second. You need the services first. You're far more likely to see your country or area getting islanded than you are to see your ISP suddenly switched off, and you're better placed to rebuild IP networks from a single access point where you can access a wiki and send local email than you are building services on your empty mesh

@goatsarah up, it goes for the UK just as well, and I'm pretty concerned about it. For a brief beautiful moment it looked like Scotland might make a break for it, but I guess that moment has passed. Not that I'm well enough to go running around moving to other coutnries anymore.

America's short term problem is obvious but its long term problem, I suspect, is that Reagan paid for a tax cut by stopping infrastructure investment and now nobody still of working age remembers what maintenance actually costs. It's now politically unthinkable to tax enough that government departments can run efficiently, that schools are properly resourced, that the line at immigration is quick, that bridges are properly inspected and maintained.

Given that the order on gender includes visas and that most trans people have updated passports, I assume that this leaves trans people with a choice of either breaking immigration law and hoping the US doesn't know they're trans, or having a mismatch between their visa and passport which will no doubt be used to deny issuance or entry.
Unfortunately for me the US government definitely officially knows I'm trans.

I guess we're at the bit where we all fucking see stuff with our own eyes and are then asked to believe that something more innocent is going on, like we didn't see that fucking bozo smack his heart and do an emphatic seig heil _twice in a row_

@Remittancegirl what gets me the most is that Musk could have kept the mythos of a tech genius going for a lot longer if he simply did not have a twitter account. He's single-handedly punctured his own reputation by failing to shut up
