@mei part of my interest in permacomputing is based on a similar starting point, but with the additional speculation of a fourth new category of software:

- software which is simple by design, written by people who do take pride in their work, which has neither bugs nor missing features (but is intentionally focused in scope)

@clarity ive always appreciated mall rats and found trash beautiful, and often find modernity funny even if not "ideal". but apologies to being sharing this in your thread if this is a space for you to vent. i dont know you and cant necessarily read the sincerity of your tone

@clarity these ideas sound funny to me. i think one of the open secrets of bureaucratic modernity is that it creates a lot of very funny situations, even if at times agonizing. the second open secret here is that humor is itself an intangible metaphysical truth of human existence, so the snake sort of eats its own tail nonetheless

ive been wanting to make a garden map of my parents house/yard that shows where things are planted

if i was an illustrator, i could imagine making a cute fantasy-style map, but thats a little outside my zone

im thinking about something more measurement based, like an architectural plan, but im not sure how to make it. i dont really want to take a measuring tape out and measure everything

looking for ideas

i thought about taking photos from above with a drone, and then somehow making a line drawing map based on the photos, but i dont have a drone and am not entirely sure how this would work

i also thought about somehow taking a bunch of photos with my phone, and then finding some magical algorithm that would construct a map

i dont really need exact precision, but would like to somehow create a map in a somewhat objective-ish related to space way

system admin things i theoretically know how to do but systematically don't get right the first time:
- letsencrypt auto-renewal
- allow some command with sudo without password for user
- crontabs
- ssh authorized_keys

@molly0xfff when you say you self-host ghost and 70% of your cost is for bulk email, do you mean that you use another paid external service for e-mail sending? and if so, id be curious which one

ty for these stats, this is very interesting

personally, im not at all up for the personal task of trying to self-host an email server and stay out of spam folders, so curious what you are using for bulk email sending.
