I need to "YES-and!" something @savannah, Python's next Release Manager, posted on bsky about chasing dreams, even if they're big and scary:

    https://bsky.app/profile/savannah.dev/post/3lv2l5nbp6s2m

It's this: be the kind of person who helps other chase their dreams! Build the kind of community that lets people try and do the things beyond their (current) reach. Provide the support they need, practically and emotionally, in order to learn and grow into these jobs.

To be clear, it isn't just about giving people the opportunity and the tools! It's also about giving them trust, letting them find their own way (even if you disagree) and giving them room to _fail_ or change their mind as well as succeed. Not that Savannah will fail! She is going to do great!

But failure *must* be acceptable. Failure in a task must not mean, or be seen as, failure as a person, or as a community member. It *has* to be okay to struggle, or do a bad job, or a merely okay job, or to want to give up halfway through, if you want to give people room to do a *stellar* job.

@thomholwerda @Strandjunker While we (well, those of us here) are trying to learn from history, I feel it's worth pointing out the resistance to it as well, in particular events like this one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1943_Amsterdam_civil_registry_office_bombing

1943 Amsterdam civil registry office bombing
The 1943 bombing of the Amsterdam civil registry office was an attempt by members of the Dutch resistance to destroy the Amsterdam civil registry (bevolkingsregister), in order to prevent the German occupiers from identifying Jews and others marked for persecution, arrest or forced labour. The March 1943 assault was only partially successful, and led to the execution of 12 participants. Nevertheless, the action likely saved many Jews from arrest and deportation to Nazi extermination camps. Background Following the 1940 German invasion and occupation of the Netherlands, everyone aged 15 and older was required to carry an identification card, the persoonsbewijs, with them at all times. Jews had to carry a persoonsbewijs marked with a large J. Resistance members soon started to forge identification cards on a large scale – the largest such operation, led by Gerrit van der Veen, produced some 80,000 forged documents. However, forged documents could be easily detected because they could be compared against the records in the civil registries. Some civil servants were willing to falsify records in the civil...

It's a tough day when everyone you work with directly, including your manager, is laid off -- excuse me, "had their roles reduced", and you're asked to onboard their replacements, people told to take those very same roles just in a different country who are not any happier about it. (It's almost like capitalism isn't actually good and you shouldn't want to live in the US.)

I suspect I'll be taking Akio on extra long walks for the time being.

@adamw @pganssle "make install" from the CPython source will install it. Why should it not be part of a binary python package?
