I genuinely think that a student used ChatGPT for a poem they turned in. I have absolutely no way to prove it.

Well, I could go to them and ask them to write a version of it in my presence. Sigh. Do I care so much to risk insulting my student like that. My suspicions arose when they could not pronounce one of the words they used while reading it aloud in class.

I just saw a poll suggesting that Trump is tied with Biden or one point behind on protecting democracy. This is an absolutely damning indictment of the press and democratic messaging. Absolutely no way this should be the case.

Clearly I just had one that was using an AI voice of Trump, clumsily imitating his many deficiencies, and banging away at some prepper horseshit. Please someone enlighten me, because this shit happens way too often and is poisoning the public discourse. For a prepper scam. Goddamn.

Welp, that's a follow right there. I teach in our Uni's General Studies Program...possibly because I never sufficiently specialized. :) I've taught WWII in film and lit, American Conspiracy Theories, Science and Pseudoscience, the History of Alternative Medicine, business writing courses, and critical thinking seminars. All students are required to take "at some distance" courses that have nothing to do with their majors. Interdisciplinarity is the only way to fly.

Today a student left an envelope on my desk with a thank you note and a $15 gift certificate for a restaurant. Alas, it would be unethical for me to accept it as I am a state employee who already gets compensated for doing my job. I took it to the legal office where our ethics compliance officer dwells.
