   @rjblaskiewicz Is English their first language? It might be that they’ve only ever read the word on a page and never heard it spoken. I know I’ve had that happen to me.

   (Or, y’know, they used ChatGPT.) :)

     I genuinely think that a student used ChatGPT for a poem they turned in. I have absolutely no way to prove it.

     Well, I could go to them and ask them to write a version of it in my presence. Sigh. Do I care so much to risk insulting my student like that. My suspicions arose when they could not pronounce one of the words they used while reading it aloud in class.
