It seems that little kids will believe almost anything. For a short while I had my friend's kids believing that french toast had to be imported directly from France.
December 1 is World AIDS Day, a day to remember those who have died from AIDS and raise awareness of the AIDS pandemic. The World Health Organization estimates that since the beginning of the epidemic, more than 80 million people have been infected with HIV, and more than 40 million have died. HIV infection is the cause of AIDS, and it's still spreading. As long as this continues AIDS will continue to claim lives.
November 20 is Transgender Day of Remembrance. Let's have a day of silence to honor transgender people whose lives were lost because of transphobia. https://www.glaad.org/blog/tdor-memoriam
Back in the day (on the PDP-10) the microcode would be loaded from disk or tape, after which the main processor would then start. This let the hackers for the Incompatible Timesharing System have their own microcode version, which added more features compared to the one provided by DEC. It's too bad this ability seems to be lost on modern computers. Please bring back free microcode that can be modified as needed, and then reloaded from scratch into the CPU. :)
Richard Stallman started working at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab in the early 1970s and later started the GNU Project. With that he launched the free software movement - a social, ethical & political movement for software to be controlled by those who used it. I had a dream about this really cool thing that I should do, but now that it's morning I can't remember what it was. It seems very much like https://xkcd.com/430/
Yes, things like surveillance aren't helpful but that should not be part of the software license for all of the same reasons mentioned in there.
It's not clear to me that free software should be placed as the cause of things like surveillance. Countries will find ways to accomplish their desired goals regardless of license.
