In Japanese you can speak very insultingly without it becoming toilet/bowel/sex related. It’s quite a different system, and it’s much more contextually determined. There are times when Japs will literally say a vulgar English word (ビッチ、ファック、etc). But in terms of speaking rudely to somebody, Japanese is much more like English was in the past where instead of calling somebody a fucker, piece of shit, etc, you’d call them something comparatively classy.

Most of their insults are just pronouns that mean you with different connotations. The context is very important as well. For instance, kisama (貴様) is usually treated as an insult in entertainment media, but in certain contexts it’s an appropriate pronoun and even reverent. It literally means honorable lord. Military officers will sometimes refer to low ranking enlisted with this term, and in extremely formal settings it’s a term of great honor (for example in Breath of the Wild Princess Zelda refers to the Deku tree as kisama)

This is something that drives me nuts about translators, professional and amateur: the needless insertion of English vulgarity at times when it’s clearly out of place. It’s like these people don’t even remember that shit and fuck are rather extreme words

Good God, I hate Windows 11. It’s just so unresponsive. Why does it take a solid 3 seconds for the start menu to find Terminal, and then when before I hit enter it freezes for another 3. This stuff is instantaneous on Linux

Talking in the old ways is a revolutionary act these days. It also makes your language much more elegant
