I’m so old I can remember when Marco Rubio was close to actual tears discussing the prospect of Trump as a general election nominee. And making insinuations about the size of Trump’s penis?

The frenemy situation in Trumpworld is cuckoo.

I’m assuming most of the insanely unqualified people Trump’s nominating is a function of wanting absolute fealty this time around—without the pesky interference of competence or expertise—and few competent experts wanting to destroy their personal and professional lives by formal association with him.

So, we’re going to spend billions of dollars deporting people whose labor we exploit to hold down food costs while also surrendering all the taxes they pay without receiving benefits.

Yep, sounds like the genius who managed to bankrupt casinos.

The shock this time is different. In 2016, I walked around in a fog for a week—getting used to the reality of an inconceivable outcome and knowing it’d be awful without knowing exactly how. Constant doomscrolling.

This time, it’s understanding everything—in all its multifarious implications—all too well. And I’m feeling dread, physically, at the cellular level. Barely able to open this app or look at headlines.

Tomorrow’s drink/dinner plans will be the first I’ve spoken about what happened.

What hurts the most is that I’m 53. And this country has consciously decided to let that vile man and his vile cohorts—through everything they will engineer with full support of a corrupt Supreme Court—determine what America IS for the rest of my life.

I’m saying this to my Trumpist relatives: I absolutely expect there will be some reason we can’t have an election in 2028.

It won’t matter that I’m not someone who runs around making hyperbolic statements. They’ll still say it’s absurd. But I want it on the record.

Trump is an idiot with a sieve for a brain who lets stuff slip. And when he said they wouldn’t have to vote again, he meant it.

My grandmother was in an iron lung. Fortunately, she managed to recover.

If Harris wins, she’d be the first woman we elected to the presidency. If Trump wins, he’d be the first convicted felon.

It’s kind of astonishing that being able to make comparisons like these is our reality.

I can remember thinking—when Mercedes loaned me a G55 eons ago because I was influential with people who bought such cars—that there was no way they could keep building such an antiquated vehicle for much longer.

Then it got really popular. And now two decades later…let’s just say you shouldn’t ever hire me as a futurist haha.

Watching HEATHERS for the first time in a couple decades, probably, and as Winona Rider uses the cigarette lighter in a Mercury wagon it occurs to me there’s an entire generation that might not know every car used to have a device for lighting cigarettes. And that some of the fanciest even had cigarette lighters for each rear-seat passenger.

Every time I imagine my profound sigh of relief if Harris wins and we don’t have to worry about Trump—himself—anymore, I remember we’re living in a horror picture and his hand will still probably grab our ankle in the last frame because this franchise is way too profitable for his backers to just let it go.

I kinda wish some journalist would ask Trump if he thinks he’s smarter than God. Because—small chance he might say ‘yes’—but I’d bet good money his answer would be some equivocation in which he suggests they’re equally smart or just never actually says ‘no.’

Not that all those phony Christians would care. But I’d love to make them explain something as monumentally blasphemous as that whenever political conversation went in a faith-based direction.

It’s kind of amazing after nearly a decade of soft-pedaled euphemisms to see headlines from mainstream sources calling lies ‘lies’ AND making connections between those lies and their outcomes.

Seems like a red-letter day when the Wall Street Journal actually uses the word racist—rather than some soft-pedaled euphemism—to describe something racist.

(Now do basically everything else the GOP says—whether dog-whistles or openly racist.)

I’m liking this trend of prosecuting parents because that’s exactly what I want to happen—seriously, fuck that guy—if it’s correct that the Georgia killer’s father not only bought him an AR-style gun but bought it AFTER his kid was investigated as a potential mass shooter.

So, Ethel Kennedy might live not only to see the son named for her husband endorse a Republican but endorse a Republican even former Republican presidents won’t endorse.
