I have to say, despite the parts challenge vintage audio stuff like this is a joy for an electronics idiot like me. Lots of space, discrete boards that have a nice clear purpose. Easy soldering. I can almost feign competence.

@sarahjamielewis one of the benefits of writing the document despite knowing it isn’t going to be read, is one can then point to the document “that you agreed to and signed off” should the proverbial hit the fan. I’ve relied on that a few times.

@botvolution i mean if tomorrow I was to produce a podcast or radio programme about anything in particular I don’t know how I’d tell the difference. With radio you have a time limit for broadcast within a standard slot and podcasts don’t have that, but a good podcast will still stick to something that’s similar in length.

Between the contractors installing the cabling, racks and equipment and the on-site electricians dealing with power there was some debate about why some switches hadn’t come online so I went to investigate for myself.

Watched Scandinavia with Simon Reeve. An interesting, if brief so no doubt missing a great deal of nuance and detail, glance at Northern Europe. I was struck by his assertion we have much more in common with these nations than we do with the US. The rampant individualism that has certainly spread to the UK from the US doesn’t sit well here. There isn’t enough space for it, we actually do need to function as a society no matter what neoliberal kool-aid you drink.

I’m trying to understand what the modes are. It has: KTV, Primal Sound, voice over, voice change. I somehow found one mode that seems to have a limited sort of autotune. The reverb is surprisingly pleasant. I think it’s sort of karaoke targeted… maybe

The buttons trigger preset samples. They’re decent quality but too short. You can’t change them. The choice is really weird.

I know they’ve been around for a while but I decided to buy one of these “sound card” things mainly to see what it actually does. It’s is of course terrible, but also weird. Really weird.

I’ve no idea if this thing is any use at all… it might be fun to running a drum synth through a mic input for crunchy reverby weirdly tuned effects…

Also I can press a button and an American female voice will say “you guys” so I’m sure that will come in handy.

It also has Bluetooth. I think all playback sources (Bluetooth, live1, live2, music) appear on the Music fader, it seems to have three mic inputs, one on a headphone jack (four pin mini jack) and the other two with power for an electret mic… no individual control of these, just one mic knob.
