Lately, people in the public eye, politicians, tech bros, artists, all walks of life, are saying, and sometimes doing absurd things. II have lived on the planet as a working adult over 20,000 days.
Some people get distracted, join cults, drink the koolaid. Others continue to THINK THING THROUGH
@dec23k@anilmc My question is this: It should be obvious to ANYONE Brexit was sold to the people with lies and malice. Are the British public going to be more skeptical moving on to future issues?
Coming up to 7 years on this Mastodon instance, although not always active. I've tried many federated platforms but always come back to #Mastodon for its many great features. #introduction I was into #tech from vacuum tubes to Today. PC from 1980 with TRS-80. Internet from 1987 at work. I've written some (https://strictlybeta.com) and a book, and almost 60 years of #Music. I'm also into visual creation with my tea stains and street photos. Should color details be added when appropriate? "A woman in a red dress in front of a purple wall is saying "I can't do this anymore!" holding a baseball.

"Artificial Intelligence" irony: One of the meanings of the adjective "artificial" is "man-made", human made, not natural. With AI, the I part is just a machine looking up existing or prior art very quickly and imitating it. AI can't invent anything new, but can be very good at medical diagnoses, as it can know everything we currently know about medecine. It can be good at chess, as it can enumerate all possible moves and the results. That's not intelligence, it's CPU, memory & throughput.
@paninid As I look at little solution to little problems, I'm positive that no "AI" we know about now could solve these until somone actually does. If asked how to prevent screws from falling off a table as you take something apart, it will not think of putting something sticky on the table until a human does this and documents it somewhere (even if that's on IG).
@lightweight Most of the early days, I had no experience with graphics software, so I didn't have any basis for comparison. There is free software out there now that is world class and usable, but if #libre is the same as #foss, it's not open source; I think the plan is to upsell later, keeping a free tier.
@lightweight Again, I don't disagree with anything you've said so far, but what I do is use what works for me. If I have to pay $30, I might. If I have to pay $129 a year, no!
@lightweight I agree 100% with that. My experience is totally anecdotal and subjective, and although I learned and use many languages, I am a horrible coder. Still, I get the difficulty of doing certain things that people complain about, especially with regard to mobile apps. As for Adobe, I had to go spit three times in the street when I saw the name. 😂
@lightweight Isn't it also a factor that they're often multi platform and that can be a time sink, making things work the same on all OS, especially mobile apps. It would be wonderful if usability people and designers would be available to #libre devs.
@lightweight I always think of the GIMP as a good example of the problem. Over the years I tried it, and I could never get it to do simple things, and to this day I prefer paying for software that's easy to use, does everything I need and looks good.
@gnutelephony Agreed. Most people who ask to connect on FB or IG aren't really important contacts. The next alternative is SMS, which everyone has, but that's not great either. I don't mind it for non-critical personal stuff, though.
@tokyo_0 I've said that before, it's a part of choice. I believe whomever runs the thing should consult the folks on it, especially those who donate or otherwise support the instance.
At an instance/admin level, blocking or not blocking #Threads will be a factor to consider when choosing an instance, or staying or leaving one. It's obvious that there are good reasons to block instances and people. These decisions, when they apply to a whole "population" are, for lack of a better word, "undemocratic". Blocking instances should be on an individual account IMO.
