Trans Floridians haven’t been able to update birth certificates since 2023
For years, trans Floridians could update their birth certificates. Now, without any changes in law, they no longer can do so; they are simply denied. The denial letters offfer conflicting requirements that supposedly haven't been met. And challenges from lawyers are simply...ignored.

If I may add?
Journalism as a field has always striven toward some sort of integrity and purity.
As businesses however, news outlets that hire them have likewise always striven to target an audience or a culture and shape their product to appeal to them. Or manipulate them, the line is often a blur. See: WWII, Cold War, pre-war capitalists vs socialists, North vs South states, and so on.
Alden Global Capital alone has bought over 600 newspapers across the USA over the last 20 years. First thing they do is fire the newsrooms, sell the real estate (possibly to a sub company so they charge rent to themselves) leverage the paper with debt and just leave it on the life support of long time subscribers and advertisers. Oh, and they donate heavily to GOP causes and candidates.
Journalism never did "fall apart", it was the owners of the news corporations intentionally tearing down the platforms.

I see Elon is now posting homophobic comments in addition to transphobic. Is this new or have I just not been paying attention?
Anti-trans bathroom laws are causing cis girls and women to be harassed in bathrooms,
making it clear that protecting them was never really a GOP motivation for these laws.

We've become so used to the idea of deregulation and shrinking of government since Reagan that most people here don't realize government can exist to make life better for people instead of corporate investors.
"Another change in French laws for supermarkets: up from July, shops are obliged to clearly affix signs to products with shrinkflation. The previous and new price in terms of a unit (e.g. kg, litre, etc.) must be indicated and the price increase calculated in euros or as a percentage. "

With talk once again about encrypted DNS thanks to Microsoft starting early on their "embrace, extend, extinguish" campaign, can we maybe first decide on a *good* replacement for, "Man in the Middle"?
While I appreciate writers and editors trying to use non-sexist terms most of their attempts are just...weird. Either because they're relying on AI or because they really really want to keep MITM as the acronym.
A few possibilities are, "Stranger in the Middle" and "Interposer attack".
Or maybe since some seem so tied to keeping the acronym, "Meddler in the Middle". This has the advantage of recognizing that it doesn't even have to be a person at all.
Dear Judge Juan Merchan,
A gag order is meaningless if you don't actually enforce it in ways that matter.
But it also brings up a question of impartiality in future cases if you do punish someone else for violating their gag order.

Housing 'affordability has just totally collapsed,' economist says
"Would-be homebuyers need to earn $113,520 a year to afford the typical house in the U.S. — 35% more than what the typical household earns annually, which is $84,072"
I would love to see the numbers if enclaves of the ultra-rich were excluded. I'm not saying housing is affordable, at all. Only that I think it might paint a slightly different picture, and point out where part of the problem lies.

Kids, remember this the next time you decide to follow an influencer-fueled trend. Know what changed? Spoiler: having kids makes your life more complicated and chaotic and it's not worth the anxiety to try to stay image-perfect.

Centrist solutions are nothing more than a slow ratcheting to the right.
Republican Kentucky State Rep. John Blanton says protesting is “as American as apple pie,” but there should be consequences when protesters “cross the line” and become disruptive. He introduced legislation this week to outlaw "disruptive" protests if the affect the Legislature.
This was in response to trans people protesting against their legal erasure in the state, along with state-sanctioned forced outings and healthcare bans.

Georgia state lawmakers last year:
Don't worry, we aren't going after puberty blockers.
Georgia state lawmakers today:
You know that bill that mandates gov't buildings keep overdose drugs on hand? The one everyone agrees on? Yeah, we just added a section that bans trans teen healthcare. Violaters may lose their permit to provide medical care.

"HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Numerous parents and residents across North Alabama have been voicing their concerns about a transgender employee at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center.
Those parents and residents have taken to Facebook to make posts about the employee who identifies as she/they and works as a Camp Counselor for the Space Camp program."

"Three Alabama politicians say they are concerned about children’s safety at Huntsville’s Space Camp after a parent complained about the presence of a transgender employee.
U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville and Reps. Dale Strong and Robert Aderholt posted statements on X, formerly known as Twitter, after a parent posted on Facebook complaining about the gender identity of one of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center employees. The topic was also picked up by the Libs of TikTok account.
Clay Yarbrough of Owens Cross Roads, the father of an 11-year-old Huntsville city school student, said he became aware on Thursday evening that a Space Camp crew member is transgender."
