1. German crime reporter asks MS Copilot what it knows about him.
2. Copilot falsely accuses him of child abuse, fraud, theft.
3. Copilot asserts “it is unfortunate that someone with such a criminal past has a family” and provides his (correct!) address and phone number.
4. Reporter files a libel complaint, but prosecutors refuse to take on the case: it’s not a criminal offense because no person committed it.

The first half hour of @rjmccall’s talk provides really good insight into Apple’s plans and motivation for Swift: a single successor language for C/C++/Obj-C for the entire stack, including kernel and embedded systems. Focused on correctness, safety, and security. Incremental adoption is key, hence the importance of interop with C, Obj-C, and now C++. #Swift

Anonymous Apple engineer on Apple’s bug reporting process : “If I get a bug from a developer and want to ask them a question, I can say, please ask the dev a technical question XYZ, and then assign the radar to a black hole. I have no idea if my technical information will be conveyed the way I wrote it. I can’t see what the developer says, other than the initial report. Everything else is through an intermediary.”

What a fucked-up process.

Core Image has had type-safe CIFilters for years. I always forget these exist because they don’t show up in the documentation.

• Xcode 14.3 has no search results for e.g. "CITextImageGenerator".
• Searching for the same thing on the web works though. And once you navigate to one filter, all the other filters magically appear in the sidebar too! It just works™️!
