last night i was thinking about how God loves us without needing anything at all from us, and this evokes our love in return. but love creates a need to care for the beloved's needs while God is entirely self-sufficient. God knows we have this need and attends to it by adopting the case of absolutely every person, such that every neighbour presents an opportunity to care for the needs of the One beyond all need. about how it's a gift to us, not a test. and about how that adoption is in fact the same act as God's initial love toward us -

i have a rather low church, priesthood of all believers sentiment when it comes to the authority of the institutional church/ordained ministers. but this is less out of an aversion to theological authority per se, it's out of a lack of having been convinced that that authority reliably teaches what i am desperate to know. i won't submit to the teachings of the "inspired magisterium" while it's so often obsessed with homophobia or misogyny or not burying people who have died by suicide, because that's the opposite of what i am so desperate to be taught
teach me to be loving: to be patient, to be kind, not to envy or to boast or to be arrogant or rude; teach me not to insist on my own way and not to be irritable; teach me not to keep record of wrongs, to rejoice in truth instead of in wrongdoing, and to bear all things and believe all things and hope all things and endure all things in love. and then i will submit to authority, and i will believe you are truly appointed by Chrㅤist to teach me—when it is clear that this is what you are striving to do -

@georgia @k because i don't actually believe femininity (or gender) is divine, i think it's a cultural construct which i'm rather allergic to reifying
wrt Mary: bc i think it's kinda weird to define Mary by femininity. i love Mary for many things: for the deep sense of justice expressed in the Magnificat, for the humility of "Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it unto me according to thy word," for having received the highest of all vocations as the bearer of God, for having been the human model of love which Chriㅤst was raised with, for the deep mourning she had at the foot of the Cross. some of those relate to her being a woman but they don't come out of her modeling "divine femininity" imo, they come out of an exceptionally perfect humanity
wrt the Spirit: again, i think Godhead is inherently unparseable in terms of gender bc gender is not an adequate framework with which to talk about God. i do have some sympathy for referring to the Spirit as "she" or with feminine imagery, but that's not a claim as to essence, it's because gender is no impediment to God and (in the former case) bc i see no impediment. i would just as happily use feminine imagery for the Father or the Son, because they are one God and God will be what God will be, though the Son incarnated as a man and referred to the Father as Father so i take those as authoritative -

i'm not really a purgatorial universalist. hell's fires are not correcting fires: they are the unjust, miserable, pointless consequences of unjust, miserable, pointless dispositions of the heart. purgatory is something else: it's a gift, it's a chance to do the penances you could not do in life and by doing them repudiate the hells that you took on. purgation is the fruit of perfect justice, hellfire is the fruit of abhorrent injustice. we have to be harrowed from the latter by mercy to enjoy the former in justice
