We’re ready to show you a new feature coming in Mastodon 4.6 - Collections. These are a way for people on Mastodon to curate and share bundles of accounts that they’d recommend to others, to help find connections and grow their network more quickly.
In a new blog post, @imanijoy provides a deeper dive into the design process for Collections, and explains what we’ve included (and things that are left out) for the first release. We’ll be enabling this feature on mastodon.social next week, and rolling it out more widely in Mastodon 4.6 very soon. We’re excited to hear what you think!

The initial release will be a starting point, while we learn from your feedback. The early focus is on creating Collections, with search and additional discovery options to come later. There are a few choices we’ve made (on size, following, etc) that we expect to revisit.
Following on from yesterday's blog post about the new design for profiles coming in Mastodon 4.6... here is the video of @imanijoy recent talk at @fossdesign where they discuss the challenges and detailed thought that goes into the design of new features (and the redesign of existing ones). 🖌️
There's much more to discover! Read the blog post for more information, and let us know what you think.
These updates will start to appear on mastodon.social and other servers running nightly builds from today, and will be available to everyone in Mastodon 4.6, coming in a few weeks.
Profile editing is now a unified experience, with everything in a single view. You can also now add alt text for profile and cover photos.
We've reworked featured hashtags, pinned posts, and custom fields to make the most important details more easily discoverable, and make better use of vertical space.
A new Activity tab has a dropdown menu for filtering different views of information (posts, boosts, replies) so you can find the information you're interested in.
Coming soon in Mastodon 4.6 - a redesigned profile page. We've used community feedback and surveys to inform these updates. Our latest blog post explains our design thinking and choices. Here are a few highlights 🧵

We've just published a blog post about our time at #FOSDEM this year, in case you missed out - there's plenty to catch up on, from the session recordings.
@taylorlorenz let us know how we can help - we think a lot of people are pretty tired of having their data mined, conversations sold, and commercial companies injecting inauthentic content into their timelines. Maybe that’s just us? Happy to have a chat if it would be useful.
